Actor Simon Pegg played the role of Montgomery Scott in J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the Star Trek franchise, led by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. After the success of the first two installments, Abrams did not return alongside the writing team but remained on board as a producer. As a result, Pegg and screenwriter Doug Jung were tasked with writing the third installment.

During an interview, Pegg spoke about the themes and subjects the third installment Star Trek Beyond, hoped to explore. The actor-writer highlighted how the story was meant to mirror some relevant modern socio-political issues. However, despite the noble intentions behind the script, the film ultimately failed to impress viewers, becoming the franchise’s worst entry.

"Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air" This is just one of the many questions that police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) has for Metropolitan Police Sergeant Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) when the city cop is reassigned to the rural town of Sandford, Gloucestershire in Edgar Wright's splendid action comedy "Hot Fuzz" (which just might be the best movie in the Cornetto Trilogy).
The bumbling but charming Butterman has never seen any real police action in this little village, so when Angel shows up, he's loaded with questions. Soon enough, they're both loaded and armed to the teeth when they learn there's a sinister plot at the center of Sandford that has kept it clean and peaceful for years. When they discover that the village elders, including Danny's father, Inspector Frank Butterman (Jim Broadbent), have been killing off residents who threaten to uproot the town's quaint foundation,...

2023 saw quite a few masterpieces (even though the box office disasters were more), and Godzilla Minus One was one of them.
Besides the tremendous critical praise it has earned from global audiences and critics, the movie seems to have gotten on the good side of quite a few celebrities in Hollywood as well. One of these is the Star Trek actor, Simon Pegg.

However, as compared to other notable reviewers, Pegg seemed to have a mixed opinion on the movie and the MonsterVerse.
This is because, on the one hand, while he greatly acknowledged the gem of a work that the film was, bringing about a new take on the Kaiju and its relationship with humans, he simultaneously also hinted that the MonsterVerse is “f—ing cultural appropriation.”

Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy is one of those movie trilogies that is linked in nearly every way except narratively. In other words, while visual elements, themes, actors and even jokes repeat between 2004's "Shaun of the Dead," 2007's "Hot Fuzz" and 2013's "The World's End," the films don't actually share any characters or even take place in the same universe. That's because it was formed as a joke in and of itself at first, with a throwaway reference to the Italian mini-ice cream cones in "Shaun" leading to Wright and actor/co-writer Simon Pegg attempting to emulate (and lightly parody) other thematic trilogies such as the "Three Colours" trilogy by Krzysztof Kieślowski.
Ever since "The World's End," there's been no further reference to Cornettos or the characters and events in the Trilogy in Wright's work — until now. As Wright's film adaptation of creator Bryan Lee O'Malley's "Scott Pilgrim" series of comics,...

The cause of Raquel Welch’s death on Feb. 15 was cardiac arrest, with Alzheimer’s disease a possible underlying factor.
The cause of death was disclosed in a death certificate filed yesterday with the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health and obtained by TMZ.
The star of One Million Years B.C. and The Three Musketeers also suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, which might have been an underlying contributor to her death at 82.
Her death had been confirmed in February by her reps at Media 4 Management, who noted that Welch died peacefully following a brief illness.
Welch rose to fame in the 1960s with performances in Fantastic Voyage, One Million Years B.C. and Bedazzled, then reached a new level of notoriety with the 1970 release of the controversial Myra Breckinridge.
Subsequent films included Fuzz, The Last of Sheila, The Three Musketeers and its sequel The Four Musketeers: Milady’s Revenge,...

Raquel Welch, an iconic actress whose image adorned posters in bedrooms around the world partly because of her bikini-clad role in One Million Years BC, but enjoyed a career that was so much more than one acting job, has died. She was 82.
Jo Raquel Tejada was born in Chicago in 1940. The family moved to San Diego, where she took ballet and acting lessons, and as a teen she won beauty contests. Welch also did some professional modeling.
She made her screen debut as one of the call girls in Russel Rouse’s film A House Is Not a Home in 1964, and in the same year made an uncredited appearance in the Elvis Presley movie Roustabout.
One of her earliest and best known roles was in 1966 sci-fi adventure Fantastic Voyage, in which she played one of a team of scientists miniaturized and injected into another scientist's body to clear a blood clot.

She attended San Diego State College on a theater arts scholarship, but despite doing some stage acting and landing a job as a weather presenter on the local news, it took a while for her to break through into films. Former footballer Hannes Þór Halldórsson makes his film debut with a goofy comedy about a knucklehead cop afraid to come out as gay
After retirement, some footballers eye up a job in coaching or management; others may go on to become pundits. Not Iceland’s former goalkeeper Hannes Þór Halldórsson, who turns film-maker with this goofy cop comedy. The movie is Reykjavík’s answer to Hot Fuzz: it’s an affectionate sendup of Hollywood action flicks, with a gay twist. It’s reasonably funny but, like a lot of genre spoofs, it begins to look increasingly like a low-rent version of the original movies it’s parodying. Though there are bound to be more laughs for audiences in Iceland where the actors are all big-name celebrities.
What Cop Secret does have going for it is a memorable lead, detective Bússi (comedian and TV personality Auðunn Blöndal). Bússi is Iceland’s most famous cop,...

Rapper 21 Savage had a world-weary tone when he brought his new single “A Lot” to The Tonight Show Monday. The track appears on his latest album, I Am > I Was.
21 spent most of the performance on a stool, striking a lethargic pose that contrasted with the energy of his band and backing vocalists, brightly cooing the song’s hook, which samples East Underground’s 1971 cut “I Love You” (which, in turn, is a cover of the Fuzz’s “I Love You For All Seasons”).

Burt Reynolds, a top Hollywood star of the 1970s whose hits ranged from such classic, easy-going drive-in fare as Smokey and the Bandit to the intense, hunted-men drama Deliverance, died today at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida. He was 82.
“It is with a broken heart that I said goodbye to my uncle today,” Reynolds’ niece Nancy Lee Hess said in a statement (read it in full below).
With a sly, knowing grin, signature moustache and a unique blend of charm and machismo, Reynolds was a bona fide cultural phenomenon. He became a frequent guest of Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show, was the first major celebrity nude male centerfold and off-screen romantic partner of such stars as frequent co-star Sally Field and Dinah Shore. Reyrolds would achieve a newfound respect among critics and fans alike for the late-career peak in 1997’s Boogie Nights, for which he earned his only Oscar nomination.

Burt Reynolds, one of Hollywood’s most popular leading men during the ’70s and early ’80s in such films as “Deliverance,” “Smokey and the Bandit, “The Longest Yard” and “Semi-Tough,” has died. His rep confirmed that he died Thursday in Jupiter, Fla. He was 82.
He later earned an Oscar nomination as best supporting actor in Paul Thomas Anderson’s ode to skin flicks, “Boogie Nights.” He had been set to appear in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Hollywood.”
Reynolds’ appeal lay in his post-modern macho posture undercut by a wry self-awareness, which he used to good effect in comedies as well as action films. For a period during the ’70s he was the nation’s top box office draw. But after one too many bad movies, his popularity waned. He returned to television, where he’d gotten his start, mostly in Westerns, and produced his own sitcom, “Evening Shade,” which brought him an Emmy.

WolfCop is one cop's quest to become a better man...one transformation at a time.
The werewolf-cop comedy "WolfCop" is the most innovative and impressive feat of film financing and distribution this year - claws down - and, thanks to pure creative genius and brilliant social media engagement, its audience turned into an online cult following before the film was ever released.
Here Comes the Fuzz.
While many were wondering about how to deal and stay on top in the rapidly changing entertainment industry, the creative and highly productive team at CineCoup was busy amassing its online audience for "WolfCop" and having a blast while doing it.
Their online efforts included an Indiegogo campaign that raised $28,130 of its $10,000 goal. Supporter rewards included a 12" vinyl press of the Wolfcop soundtrack, a WolfCop action figure, collector cards, a graphic novel and a hilarious Cannes Edition Pinup poster of WolfCop in homage to Burt Reynolds. As CineCoup President of Distribution and Sales Brad Pelman explained all these details with great enthusiasm and a grin on his face, it was easy to understand how much fun and ongoing hilarity his team experienced while producing this campaign. Fun, laughter and great teamwork resulting in success... Who would have thought???
The WolfCop fever is so infectious with its wit and comedic relief, that it naturally magnetizes online followers to join in on the fun. The usual Facebook and Twitter engagement has been activated, but additionally, there is a webpage where fans can demand it, to show distributors that the hunger for "The Wolf" is real. Fans have been so fired up to bring "The Fuzz" into the world, that one of them even paid for a WolfCop billboard advertising its release in Regina, Saskatchewan. Who does that??? A fan paying for an advertisement!?! This may just be a first.
Return of the Fuzz.
“Based on the unanimous positive reaction to the film, we will be putting Wolfcop 2 into production this fall. We can't divulge much about the storyline at this point, only that it will be dirtier and harrier than the first one." - - Brad Pelman, CineCoup President, Distribution and Sales.
The demand for "WolfCop" has become so great that, as it was racking up distribution deals with the help of Raven Banner (including Image, Studio Canal, Ascot Elite, Shoshiku, Accent, and many others), its sequel got the green light at Cannes this year. Pelman confirmed that the sequel's shoot will begin this fall with the original cast set to return to the mayhem: "WolfCop 2, Bigger, Harrier". Director Lowell Dean will be at the helm of "WolfCop 2", following the same winning formula as his original.
"WolfCop" just played at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal, Stige Film Festival, and will be at the Busan International Film Festival in Korea this October.
Cinecoup Applies Its Social Engagement Model to Comedic Television Content
Pelman discusses CineCoup's new partnership with CBC and Just for Laughs:
The audience building that brought our success to "WolfCop" is now being deployed in the same manner for the television business in Canada, working with Just For Laughs (the festival and organization) and CBC as our "Destination" broadcaster, CineCoup will open a similar intake for comedy writers to submit 2 minute story ideas, in the form of a trailer. We will put the teams through similar "missions" where the creators get to show the audience what they're made of. Successful teams will rise to the top and CineCoup will option the top 10 project ideas. CBC will develop and produce one of the pilots, and CineCoup and Just For Laughs will have rights on the other 9, which can be produced or set up elsewhere.
This level of audience engagement is truly cutting edge and where successful storytelling is going. This use of internet democracy that allows the audience to choose which stories they want to see and support will only continue to perpetuate CineCoup's success for years to come.

It’s lucky 13 for the Antimatter Film Festival in Victoria, BC. That is, their 13th annual fest is all set to run on Oct 8-16. That’s nine mind-blowing nights of experimental short films, live film performances and culture-shattering documentaries.
The fest kicks off on the 8th with a 16mm screening of Sergei Eisenstein’s classic silent film Battleship Potemkin that will be accompanied by a live soundtrack by DJ-son Bitter Herbs [Jason Flower]. The people’s revolution never sounded so funky! Then, the fest concludes on the 16th with the event “Uzos [Underwater Zombies from Outer Space]” and will feature performances by Ryan Beattie, Atomic Vaudeville, Slut Revolver, Wes Borg and more.
Smooshed between those two events will be the debut feature film by acclaimed ethnographic filmmaker Ben Russell, Let Each One Go Where They May, which documents the amazing recreation of a bold escape made by slaves. Other feature length documentaries screening are: Teen Routines,...

I feel like I should write a little something at the beginning of this week’s Hump-Day Threesome since it’s the first time I’m ever publishing this new weekly feature. The idea is simple: On Wednesdays I’ll post a recommendation offering you three films that you may or may not have heard of.
All of these films will come from my weekly devouring of random and obscure movies via websites like Hulu, Classic Cinema Online, Netflix, and etc. Sometimes I’ll throw in a cable network or DVD rental, but for the most part I’m going to suggest films that will be accessible to just about anyone.
Enjoy the threesome!
