In this film, all the female leads (the very young Ornella Muti excluded) strip naked. Surprising ( and the only one in her career) is the full nude from then 41-year-old Graziella Galvani, playing Betta. However, Renzo Montagnani, who plays Menico, revealed that of all of them he preferred Ewa Aulin: "I must say that as a beauty, I really liked Ewa Aulin. She was gorgeous...an amazing body! A lump of butter put there..."
The film is set in Veneto, but exteriors were shot in Lazio, at Corcole Castle, and at Monte Gelato waterfalls in Mazzano Romano.
The plot is inspired by several novellas by Angelo Beolco known as Ruzante written between 1529 and 1532.
