Quotes

  • Elvis Presley : [introducing band members to audience]  "... and the guy that gives me my water and my scarves and so forth, his name is Charlie Hodge."

  • Elvis Presley : I've never gotten over what they call stage fright. I go through it every show. I'm pretty concerned. I'm pretty much thinking about the show. I never get completely comfortable with it. And I don't let the people with me get comfortable with it, in that I remind them that its a new crowd out there. Its a new audience and they haven't seen us before. So, its gotta be like the first time we go on.

  • Elvis Presley : The first time that I ever appeared on stage it scared me to death. I really didn't know what the yellin' was about. I didn't realize that my body was moving. It seemed a natural thing to me. So, the manager back stage, I said "What'll I do? What'll I do?" He said, "Well, whatever it is, go back and do it again."

    [laughs]

  • Elvis Presley : We'll do two shows a night for five weeks. A lot of times we'll go upstairs and sing until daylight - gospel songs. We grew up with it in a time since, I can remember, like two years old. It more or less puts your mind at ease. It does mine.

  • Elvis Presley : I don't like to stay back stage too long. I've got to please the crowd. I mean, I've got to excite them - in order to make them happy. I give myself to doing that show. If somebody would walk up to me and say, "Hey, your head just exploded." I wouldn't hear it.

  • Elvis Presley : My Daddy had seen a lot of people play guitar and stuff who didn't work. So, he said, "You should make up your mind," he said, "about either being an electrician or playing a guitar." He said, "I never saw a guitar player that was worth a damn."

    [laughs]

  • Elvis Presley : [after singing some gospel songs]  That's enough. That's enough. Let's take a collection and go get some coffee.

    [laughs]

  • Elvis Presley : [on stage performing, after a fan gives him a pair lady's red panties]  Are these your's, honey?

  • Elvis Presley : [on stage]  I'd like to turn the house lights up, ladies and gentlemen. Now that you've seen me, I'd like to take a look at you. Okay?

  • Elvis Presley : [singing]  Well, I've never been to heaven, but I've been to Oklahoma...
