At first, it was expected that Gary Cooper would play the role of Don Quixote. In 1953, Cooper shot in Mexico a film with the Argentine director Hugo Fregonese that was titled "Blowing Wild". The relationship between both was magnificent and, since both were fans of Don Quixote, they thought about making a second film together inspired in the character created by Cervantes. However, Gary Cooper passed away and then the project was parked.
