When Columbo walks down a steep, grassy hill to inspect the wreckage of the Jaguar, he loses his footing and stumbles, taking a big fall and landing on his back. This wasn't staged; it was Peter Falk, not a stuntman.
The footage of the yellow Jaguar being pushed into a canyon has been used multiple times. It appears in the Barnaby Jones (1973) episodes Image in a Cracked Mirror (1974) with Bradford Dillman and Murder Once Removed (1975). It appears again in the Columbo (1971) episode The Greenhouse Jungle (1972), which also stars Dillman.
Sgt. Wilson reappears in Now You See Him (1976) to help catch the Great Santini. However, his first name changes from Frederic to John.
Mr. Goodland's car that can be seen throughout the episode is a 1962 Bentley S2 Continental.
Jarvis Goodland's house is not a real house, but rather a prop at Universal Studios. Built for the classic Uncle Tom's Cabin (1927), this mansion was seen in Written on the Wind (1956), appeared as the Sanitorium in Harvey (1950), and as the exterior of Applegate Manor in Castle Freak (1995). Prior to 1981, the mansion was, along with the rest of Colonial Street, at the northern edge of the back lot. During this period it was known as the Shelby Mansion (after the characters who lived there in Uncle Tom's Cabin).
