Exclusive: If some film executives have looked a bit distracted at the agency Oscar parties tonight, it’s because they were waging a rather breathtaking auction for I Am Not Alone, a 22-page short story by Chris Hicks that is an ideal template for a major genre film. The dust is just settling, but I am hearing that Netflix is closing up a high-six-figure deal for an outright buy of the story, with mid-seven figures pledged to Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green to write the script and direct as a star vehicle for Oscar winner Jessica Chastain.
Five bidders chased this one over 72 hours, and it came down to Netflix and Warner Bros. A big reason for the outcome is that Green wanted this to be with a streamer.

Post Malone sustained a rib injury in a stage fall Saturday night during his St. Louis show after the rapper accidentally fell into an open trap door.
Midway through the concert, during his performance of “Circles,” Malone unknowingly walked toward where the stage door — used to shuttle equipment to and from the stage — was still open. Malone then partially plunged into the gap, slamming his ribs on the stage and, after a few moments of writhing in pain, called over for medical assistance.

If you've ever wondered why so many superhero movies suddenly seem obsessed with the concept of multiverses these days, from "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" to the upcoming time-travel hijinks of "The Flash," you can thank "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." Although undeniably a staple of countless comic book storylines in decades past, both Marvel and DC included, it took until the breakthrough success of the animated film and its cavalcade of Spidey-themed characters for everyone to sit up and realize how much potential this mode of storytelling contains.
Few know that better than "Spider-Verse" co-director Peter Ramsey, who (along with Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman) helped turn the impossibly complicated and ambitious film into a runaway success -- one that almost certainly played a significant role in essentially turning the same concept into live-action with "Spider-Man: No Way Home." /Film's Rafael Motamayor recently had the opportunity to speak...

24KGoldn, the 20-year-old San Francisco rapper-singer born Golden Von Jones, has big Gen Z tween-idol energy. Maybe the biggest: What other cherubic, shortie-courting rising star can claim a TikTok-powered Billboard Hot 100 Number One? That would be “Mood,” featuring gloomy hip-popper Iann Dior (also adorable), which inspired a dance challenge on the video app last summer, crossed over to the top-hits charts on Spotify and Apple, and culminated in a November remix featuring J Balvin and Justin Bieber, riding 24KGoldn’s TikTok wave nearly 15 years after his own breakthrough on YouTube.

The Grammy for Song of the Year is strictly an award for songwriters, as opposed to Record of the Year, which is for a recording as a whole and goes to the artist, producers, and engineers. There’s usually significant overlap between the two categories, but big hits with relatively lightweight subject matter tend not to get writing plaudits. Thousands of Gold Derby users have been predicting this year’s nominations here in our predictions center. Those forecasts have been combined to generate our official racetrack odds. Here’s who they think will make the cut for Song of the Year.

Nominations for the Grammy Awards are coming this Tuesday November 24, and there are categories that might set new records, either for wins or for nominations. Let’s look at a few.
DISCUSS2021 Grammy predictions: Album of the Year
Record of the Year
Multiple records could be broken in this category this year. First, if Beyoncé gets a nomination this year — whether it is for “Savage (Remix)” with Megan Thee Stallion, her own “Black Parade,” or maybe even both — she’ll break the record for the most nominations for a female artist in this category, which she currently holds in a tie with Barbra Streisand at five apiece. Beyonce’s previous nominations were for “Say My Name” (as a member of Destiny’s Child in 2001), “Crazy in Love” (2004), “Irreplaceable” (2008), “Halo” (2010) and “Formation” (2017).
Not only that, Beyoncé would also join a select list of artists who’ve had Roty nominations in three different decades.

I admit, I am a sucker for films about everything romance-related. Unrequited love – star-crossed lovers – happy endings, you name it, and I’m there. Just the other day, I wallowed for hours after watching Vittorio de Sica’s “Sunflower” (1970), a heart wrenching film about a couple learning how to move on after being torn apart by war. There’s a delicacy that comes with romantic dramas; they are universal, yet they are individual; they are familiar, yet they are emotionally immersive all the same.
Tamil-language short film “Will I See You Again (Marumurai Kanbena),” however, simply misses the mark. This twelve-minute short condenses the story of Megha (Yukashridevi) and Kathir (Ajay Sarvess) who – by some weird play of fate – run into each other twice over an anonymous phone line. Little do they know, however, that they had also run into each other in real life — and Kathir had already fallen heads over heels for her.

The general field at this year’s Grammys will be interesting to watch. Given the current political climate in the US, the recording academy has made efforts to diversify itself, and this may be reflected in the nominations too. Let’s consider which artists are primed for Album of the Year glory.
All eyes seem to be on The Weeknd’s critically-acclaimed blockbuster “After Hours” to compete for the top honor. “After Hours” would definitely be an odd man out in the history of winners; it’s noticeably darker and more explicit than past champs. However, it may be the perfect time to honor a Black artist after complaints that the Grammys usually pick white winners (the last Black artist to win this award was Herbie Hancock in 2008 for his collection of Joni Mitchell covers).

Post Malone goes into this event with the most nominations (16), so it’s probably not surprising that we’re betting on him to take home plenty of hardware. Out of the categories we’re predicting, he’s tipped to win Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album (“Hollywood’s Bleeding“). And that may just be scratching the surface of his ultimate haul given the chart success of “Bleeding” and its single “Circles.”

Chances are, if you’ve seen many of the late films of Theodoros Angelopoulos, Michelangelo Antonioni (everything since L’avventura), Marco Bellocchio, Vittorio De Sica, Federico Fellini (almost everything since Amarcord), Mario Monicelli, Elio Petri, Francesco Rosi, Andrei Tarkovsky (Nostalghia), the Taviani brothers, and/or Luchino Visconti, and paid much attention to their script credits, you know who Tonino Guerra (1920–2012) was and is—a ubiquitous presence in modernist European cinema, especially its Italian branches. Petri was his first cinematic employer, after Guerra started out as a schoolteacher and poet whose parents were illiterate; later on, he became a visual artist as well as a screenwriter with over a hundred credits.Even after one acknowledges the exceptionally collaborative role played by multiple writers on Italian films, it seems that no one else was considered quite as essential by so many important directors. The Weeknd is still number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with “Blinding Lights,” but it was Post Malone who made history. His song “Circles,” which previously spent three weeks at the top spot, landed at number-six on the chart dated May 2, which officially makes it the longest-running top-10 hit in history, a record he held already.
SEE2021 Grammy Predictions: Record of the Year
This is the 34th week for “Circles” in the top 10. In fact, the song has never not been in the top 10 in its entire run so far. The previous record was set by Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You,” which spent 33 weeks in the top 10 in 2017. Then Maroon 5 and Cardi B tied that record with their hit “Girls Like You” from 2018 to 2019. And Post Malone himself tied it with “Sunflower” featuring Swae Lee, also from 2018 to 2019.
So it seems like more and more songs are sticking around for longer.

As if the fact that it didn’t leave your head from April to August wasn’t proof enough, the data backs it up: “Old Town Road” was, by our count, the most massive song of 2019. Lil Nas X’s breakout hit rides to Number One on the inaugural year-end Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs Chart, which uses data from Alpha Data to rank the most popular songs of 2019 in the U.S. by a combination of streams and sales.

Man! He feels like a stan. The 2019 American Music Awards was packed with some amazing moments. Taylor Swift gave an unforgettable Artist of the Decade performance. While the country icon showcased a medley of her greatest hits during Sunday's award ceremony, the "Sunflower" singer was seen in the audience living his absolute best life. And luckily for the internet, the moment was caught on...

Lewis Capaldi (‘Someone You Loved’) continues the trend of first-timers topping the Billboard charts
After gradually climbing up the charts for weeks, the breakup ballad “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi has finally reached the summit, claiming the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the chart dated November 2. It took 24 weeks for him to get there, which marks the fifth-longest ascent before finally coming out on top. And it’s Capaldi’s first chart-topper, which continues the 2019 trend of newcomers taking the lead. Watch Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” video above.
Capaldi knocked Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” out of the number-one slot after that song had spent seven nonconsecutive weeks at the head of the pack. That was Lizzo’s first song to reach the top as well. And that’s far from the only example of a Billboard breakthrough this year. The very first chart of the calendar year was topped by the seventh week of Ariana Grande‘s “Thank U, Next,...

Exclusive: New Line has set Lindsey Beer to write Hello Kitty, the movie based on the iconic Sanrio pop culture brand. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film will be designed for four quadrant global audience appeal.
The studio and Beau Flynn and his FlynnPictureCo banner made a deal last March to produce a film with Sanrio. It was the first time such a deal got made outside Japan in the brand’s 45-year history. Hello Kitty began in 1974, introduced on a coin purse and it quickly became a global phenomenon, sold in 130 countries on more than 50,000 different branded products each year.
The task of shaping the brand into a narrative falls to Beer, who co-founded the company Known Universe with fellow tent pole scribes Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. There is little doubt that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is a fun movie, exceeding everyone’s expectations. It deserves its Oscar, its box office success, and its pioneering an animated path for Marvel to explore.
The film, out now on disc from Sony Home Entertainment, celebrates what it means to wear the suit. Everyone knows Peter Parker and his story so here, the masses are introduced to Mile Morales (Shameik Moore), who has been a part of the comics since 2011 and his world has been merged into the core Marvel Universe, making him a permanent addition.
We also meet other iterations of Spider-Man, each from a separate parallel universe, and these days the general public is fine with the concept of a multiverse. Writers Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman play with it, by having each of the main Spiders do a narration that emphasizes their variance from the well-known origin.

You want to know how I knew the dudes who live in the apartment above me had seen Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? Because shortly after the Oscar nominated-film's release back in December, they started blasting Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower." Nonstop. (For Day's On End.) Even though I've been permanently scarred by the opening "Ayy, ayy, ayy, ayys," I have to admit that it's the perfect track to introduce us to the movie's lovable protagonist, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore).
After a lengthy montage about Peter Parker, voiced by Hollywood's best Chris, the movie cuts to young Miles hanging out in his bedroom with headphones on, stumbling over the lyrics to "Sunflower" as he draws and makes stickers at his desk. It's one of many excellent songs on the soundtrack, but as writers Rodney Rothman and Phil Lord recently revealed to Vulture, "Sunflower" was actually their second choice.
