When Catlan goes to bed with Julie, there are numerous brief flashbacks for Catlan from earlier during that day. But as the flashbacks mix with Catlan in bed, Catlan and Julie switch sides of the bed. Catlan starts off on the right side, then he is on the left side, then he finishes back on the right side again.
During the opening scenes Catlan wears 2 different helmets during the same play. During the same play he has a helmet that has a white center stripe and 2 black stripes on either side of the white stripe (this was the actual style that the New Orleans Saints had on their helmets). Then during other shots during the same play, he has a helmet with a black center stripe with 2 white stripes on either side (this style of helmet the Saints did NOT have). Other players have this same incorrect helmet too. But Catlan wears both helmets during different shots of the same play. Note: Using a real team's name and uniforms - something rarely done previously - lead to many continuity issues when mixing real game film and scenes shot for this picture.
At the end of the movie in the game footage, the Cowboys' jerseys have two white stripes. In filmed shots with Charlton Heston, they all have three white stripes.
Catlan goes to the dressing room and is replaced by Williams. The announcer says that it is Saints ball, first and Ten on the Browns' 19. But the Saints go to the 15 where the ball has been placed, NOT the 19.
The year is 1969. Catlan is 40 years old. But during a flashback, Catlan is shown to have made his first NFL appearance as a New Orleans Saint against the St. Louis Cardinals as a rookie sensation from Notre Dame. THIS math does NOT work. If Catlan was a rookie during this flashback (when he would have been about 22, 23), that would place this flashback in the early 1950s. Though the Cardinals existed during the 1950s, the Saints did NOT. The Saints only came into existence in 1967. Even if someone started their rookie year during the Saints expansion year, then by 1969 (their third year) they would have been in their mid 20s. No one could have been a rookie in 1967 (and fresh out of Notre Dame) and 40 years old only two years later in 1969. There were plenty of teams in the 1969 NFL that existed in the 1950s that the director could have chosen. Or the director could have had Catlan traded to the Saints sometime during the Saints first two years. But choosing the Saints for Catlan to have spent his entire career just does NOT work mathematically. A three year old franchise was a baffling choice for this role to say the least.
Catlin is 40 years old in 1969. In an earlier flashback Coach Southerd put Catlin for the first time in a NFL game when he was a "rookie sensation" from Notre Dame against the Cardinals. He would have been about 22 or 23 as a rookie. Yet, later in the film, Southerd fines Catlan $1000. He says that he would have fined a rookie only $100 but is fining Catlan $1000 because Catlan should know better. He then goes on to emphasize this point, that he should have known better because they have been together 11 years. Again, the math just does NOT work. If Catlan is now 40 and was about 22, 23, when he was a rookie, then they now would have to have been together 17, 18 years, NOT 11.
