Jean-Louis Trintignant's character is never called by name in the entire film. He is shown in credits as "Jean-Louis."
My Night at Maud's (1969) was made with funds raised by François Truffaut, who liked the script, and was initially intended to be the third "Moral Tale." However, because the film takes place on Christmas Eve, Éric Rohmer wanted to shoot the film on and around that day. Actor Jean-Louis Trintignant was not available; thus, filming was delayed for an entire year.
My Night at Maud's (1969) is the third film in the series of the Six Moral Tales by Éric Rohmer. The Six Moral Tales in chronological order are --- The Bakery Girl of Monceau (1963), Suzanne's Career (1963), The Collector (1967), My Night at Maud's (1969), Claire's Knee (1970) and Love in the Afternoon (1972).
When nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film, My Night at Maud's (1969) was nominated under the title "My Night with Maud" because at the time it had no U.S. distributor.
