Mumtaz Did Not Give A Single Flop With Rajesh Khanna ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Remember the times when we were mesmerized by a beautiful, pretty face with a puffed hair bun trippily dancing to Jai Jai Shiv Shankar with the superstar of the 60 – 70s, Rajesh Khanna? Mumtaz shot to fame once she found her footing as Kaka’s heroine in many films.
It was in Do Raaste, that she landed her first A-grade role. Earlier she was always playing the second fiddle in films. But Do Raaste and the song Chhup Gaye Saare Nazaare gave her an instant stardom and she was suddenly the first choice for the heroine in Rajesh Khanna’s films.
So much so that gossip mills in those days talked about a certain unsaid rivalry between Rajesh Khanna and another leading lady – Sharmila Tagore, as the duo gave the blockbuster Aradhana. But Mumtaz, in an interview with Rediff,...

We often come across interviews of yesteryear stars who have often spoken about the struggles they have faced in the past. Just recently, we saw two veteran actresses, Neetu Kapoor and Zeenat Aman, come on Koffee With Karan and spill the beans on the working patterns of the Bollywood industry in that era and how drastically it has changed now. Recently, another veteran actress, Mumtaz, opened up about the same and revealed how she was labeled a ‘B-Grade’ actress for doing small roles.
The diva, who entered the industry as a child artist in 1958 at the age of 11, starred in a number of films. But it was only during ‘Do Raaste’ that she gained massive recognition and became one of the most sought-after actresses in the Hindi Film Industry.

Recalling how her performance shocked superstar Rajesh Khanna in the 1969 film ‘Do Raaste’ also starring Mumtaz, veteran actress Bindu shared how college girls and boys used to gather around him in huge numbers, even not letting him enter the film set.
She said: “I did a film with Rajesh Khanna called ‘Do Raaste,’ and he was already a star because he had already signed two-three films before that. It was my first experience shooting with him, he was to play my brother-in-law.
“My first scene with him was where I was playing the role of a very arrogant girl and Prem Chopra was portraying my husband. In the sequence, I had to shout at him while he was lying on the sofa, and he was shocked by my performance because he considered me a newcomer,” she said.

Khuda Hafiz (Disney-Hotstar)
Starring Vidyut Jammwal, Shivaleeka Oberoi, Annu Kapoor, Aahana Kumra and Shiv Panditt
Directed by Faruk Kabir
How much worse can the Ott-sponsored feature-film premieres get? If this is the third-degree torture we deserve during lockdown than God save civilization. Cinema, of course, is already doomed because everything and anything is now served up as a feature film. Khuda Hafiz has the seeds of a solid thriller planted at its epicenter: a husband enters a bloodied Muslim country in search of his missing wife.
In this case the country is a fictional device named Noman echoing Oman and No Man’s land, it is just about the most inventive factor you will encounter in this action-packed nonsense. Well intended, no doubt. But crafted with all the delicacy of a sledgehammer falling on a nail.
Very often, the background score is so loud it drowns out the dialogues. Not that they are worth hearing.

Deepika Padukone can't thank her Ram Leela co-star Ranveer Singh enough for giving her time off to visit her parents for the New Year. Each year, Deepika likes to be with her family at year-end. However, this year she was meant to shoot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela with Ranveer over the New Year's. Ranveer's injury on the sets of Yash Raj Films' Gunday has not only affected that film but also Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela. Says a source, "Ranveer Singh was shooting simultaneously for Gunday and Ram Leela. In fact, the whiskered look that he sports for Sanjay Bhansali's film has been incorporated into his personality in Gunday for the want of a choice. Remember back in 1969; how Rajesh Khanna's bearded look in Ittefaq had to be incorporated into Do Raaste as the superstar shot simultaneously for both?" Ranveer has lately been running...

Anand Bakshi who wrote more than 4500 lyrics during his long career of 40 years, out of which at least 3000 songs were superhits, would now be a part of a comprehensive documentary that his close friend and creative collaborator Subhash Ghai will make. Research on the man and poet whose longevity defies all definition, has already begun. Says Ghai, "At the moment I am in the process of putting together the pieces of Bakshi Saab's life. But yes, I don't want to make a dry boring staccato documentary that no one would watch. This was a man who wrote some of the most entertaining songs for our films. I want the documentary on Bakshi Saab to be seen by generations that have not grown up with Bakshi's Saab's words in the mouth, as we have." Ghai wants to humanize Bakshi in the documentary.
