Kirk is involved in gun fights with two bad guys who are using rifles with scopes. The first guy misses a long shot at Kirk who then returns fire and kills him and his sidekick with his short barrel handgun. He follows that up with shooting another rifle toting bad guy from a distance while in a moving helicopter.
Kirk breaks into the District Attorney's office and steals the assistant's note pads to get information for the defense attorney. He is not wearing gloves and as a former policeman his fingerprints would have been on file and his working for the defense would have made him the prime suspect.
The District Attorney is required to turn over all evidence to the defense, Jameson Schuyler would never have broken into the office to get the "zinger" evidence, Eli Wallace's lawyer character would have simply asked for it.
The underlying crime is to embezzle the fortune a rich recluse by a gang including his employees and then stage his murder. This takes place over a lengthy time period with the rich victim dead and stored in a freezer. The gang has guys in the windows with rifles and scopes watching out for what exactly? It takes so long that several people interact with the fenced off estate, discover something is amiss and end up getting killed as well. The final plan is to defrost the victim and burn him up a house fire and one of the gang is worried about whether the body will be found with ice crystals? The missing funds and household goods are going to be suspicious regardless of the cause of death.
Kirk loses his pistol during a hi-jacking and it is later used in a murder but it reappears later when he uses it to dispatch the criminals.
The criminal gang has weeks to get their theft together and have already emptied the victim's bank account of millions and yet when Kirk shows up at the end the members are rushing to leave carrying a silver teapot and other artifacts in their hands out of the house to their car.
A would-be assassin punches a hole in Kirk's gas tank and when the car runs out of gas the masked guy drives past, doesn't stop, and takes a couple of shots at Kirk who ducks down. Then the shooter turns his car around and comes back and gets out of his car and approaches on foot to the side of the car so Kirk can kick the door open into him. The door would have been latched and wouldn't have opened when kicked. After a fist fight Kirk runs into the bush. When Kirk is chased by the attacker he is shot at and jumps into a pond and floats face down to fool the shooter. A real killer would have put another couple of bullets into the head and floating body to be sure.
Kirk and the widow are sitting at the side of the road outside the gated estate of the crime. Several of the criminals approach, honk the horn, and the gate opens to let them in. Kirk follows them through the open gate. How did the guys in the car not see Kirk and the big black Lincoln sitting across from the gate and why would they allow him to follow them into the crime scene.
