After changing the landscape of American drive-in movies forever with 1963’s Blood Feast, Herschell Gordon Lewis quickly followed that film up with 2,000 Maniacs! and Color Me Blood Red. But Lewis was never one to sit around and relax after another drive-in triumph was in the can. In between these primitive gore classics he also directed other films including nudie cuties, roughies, documentaries, and even a family film entitled Jimmy, the Boy Wonder. But 1967 saw Lewis return to the horror genre with not one, but three, horror features. Two of these films are included in this package.
First up is the film that is highlighted on the packaging for this Blu-ray: The Gruesome Twosome. While H.G.’s first three horror opuses may have generated some (unintentional) laughs, his goal with The Gruesome Twosome was to inject some true black humor into the mix. This begins with the title of the flick.

There are few absolutes in life, let alone in the world of horror; but this I find to be true: Herschell Gordon Lewis was appreciated in his time. Beloved, actually. Sadly passing away on September 26th, 2016 at the age of 87, he left behind a slew of grindhouse classics encapsulating everything from biker flicks to sex ed pieces. But Hgl will be forever known for a string of unique and groundbreaking horror films including The Gore Gore Girls (1972), his last opus before he took a 30 year sabbatical from filmmaking. And on the Hgl spectrum, it’s one of his best.
If you’re familiar at all with “The Godfather of Gore” (a moniker he wore as a point of pride) but haven’t seen The Gore Gore Girls, the differences between this and say, Blood Feast (1963), his first splatter extravaganza, are minimal. Made for a pittance of 63 grand, Ggg has all...

Herschell Gordon Lewis, whose blood-drenched, over-the-top horror films built a loyal cult audience, has passed away at age 87. Lewis never achieved mainstream recognition but apparently took satisfaction that his bizarre, low-budget films had resonated with their intended audiences. Lewis, a former teacher, became involved in show business by producing and directing commercials, as well as voicing some of them. In 1963 he wrote and directed "Blood Feast", a horror flick on a tiny budget. The film became popular with the "so-bad-its-good" crowd and benefited from a creative marketing campaign. Over the decades, Lewis would continue to market his films to a growing fan base and found a particularly receptive audience in the rural drive-in markets that responded to his humorous approach to horror and sexploitation films. Among his productions: "Scum of the Earth", "Two Thousand Maniacs", "Monster-a-Go-Go", "Something Red" and "The Gruesome Twosome".

A few words about H G Lewis, 'the godfather of gore', who died yesterday...
This week is a sad one for horror fans, as it marks the passing of Herschell Gordon Lewis (June 15, 1929 - September 26, 2016), a man whose pioneering splatter movies changed the genre forever. While even his most well-known work is perhaps still not widely seen outside of horror circles, this is part of what makes him one of the quintessential purveyors of it. Horror - especially at its extreme end - has always been an outsider's genre, offputting and disturbing to wider crowds. Sure, a lot of the tropes and extremities that Lewis introduced are commonplace now in major pictures but his work (although shot primarily to make money from the drive-in circuit in the early 60s) has remained on the fringes. A cult favourite for those in the know.

Herschell Gordon Lewis' Blood Feast
One of the most influential filmmakers of his generation, horror icon Herschell Gordon Lewis, passed away today at the age of 87. An advertising man who turned his talents to exploitation in the early Sixties and made a total of 49 films, progressing from nudie cuties to full on horror. He was known for his febrile imagination, his love of gratuitous gore and his habit of feeding his cast and crew members exclusively on Kentucky Fried Chicken until they were sick.
Lewis' most important film was 1963's Blood Feast, celebrated for its joyous ineptitude and widely hailed as the first ever splatter movie. Its impact on cinema was considerable, spawning literall hundreds of imitations, and it was recently remade by Marcel Walz. Herschell Gordon Lewis, a horror icon long known as the “Godfather of Gore,” has passed away of unspecified causes at 87. He was best known for innovating the “splatter” subgenre with 1963’s “Blood Feast,” which Lewis made on a $24,500 budget partly as a response to “Psycho” — he wanted to show the act of murder on film in graphic detail, not just the aftermath. Something Weird Video broke the news on Facebook.

The filmmaker was highly prolific throughout the 1960s and early ’70s, and active in a number of sordid subgenres: nudie-cuties, juvenile-delinquent movies and other exemplars of exploitation cinema. Among his best-known — and most alluringly named — works are “The Wizard of Gore,” “She-Devils on Wheels,” “The Gruesome Twosome” and “Two Thousand Maniacs!”

Some very upsetting news is circulating today, as it's being reported that Herschell Gordon Lewis, aka The Godfather of Gore, has passed away at the age of 87.
The news of Lewis' passing comes from Something Weird Video (via Bloody Disgusting). While the exact cause of death is unknown, there's no doubt that Lewis will be missed by countless people within the horror community, where he touched many lives with his unfiltered creativity both behind and in front of the camera.
Lewis left his unique imprint on the horror genre as early as the 1960s with films like Blood Feast (1963), Two Thousand Maniacs! (1964), Something Weird, The Gruesome Twosome, and A Taste of Blood.
In 2002, Lewis returned to directing with Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat, and he recently appeared in Marcel Walz's Blood Feast remake and Joe Castro's Terror Toons 3.
Lewis' uncompromising style will live on through...

The godfather of gore himself, Herschell Gordon Lewis, will be hosting a marathon of his films at the International House Philadelphia on Sunday, August 21. “The H.G. Lewis Gore-a-Thon” will feature Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, Color Me Blood Red, and The Gruesome Twosome, before closing out the night with 1967’s The Wizard Of Gore. All the films will be presented in glorious 35mm, the only way Exhumed Films knows how.
Blood Feast is generally credited as the first “gore film.” Lewis’s low-budget shlocker from 1963 was a response to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, which Lewis felt cheated the audience by showing the aftermath of murder, but ton the action. The Skeleton Twins

Written by Craig Johnson & Mark Heyman
USA, 2014
Sometimes you don’t want to hear how everything’s going to be alright. You just need someone to share the chaos with you. The Skeleton Twins is about reconnecting with that someone who makes the din between your ears just a little bit quieter. Superbly acted from a pitch-perfect script, this indie darling should make its presence known come award season. More importantly, it’s imbued with a quiet dignity that rises above patronizing head pats and simple solutions. It’s messy and real and sticks with you long after the laughs have subsided and the tears have stopped flowing.

One of the cooler pieces of news to come out of Comic-Con was the announcement by Charles Band of Full Moon Entertainment and Brian Seaton of Action Lab Comics about their partnership to create a comic book series based on the Puppet Master saga.

In what might be the most devious bad guy team of all time, "Muppets Most Wanted" paired Ricky Gervais with Constantine, who just so happens to be the world's most dangerous frog. Don't worry too much about Gervais, as he's just playing a role. However, Constantine's evil ways may be wearing off on him.
The two sat down with Zap2it to talk about the movie, but what was really evident was the disdain they have with their co-stars, especially Walter and his "stupid hair." Gervais claims he's just embracing the character he plays in the movie, but he's taking a bit too much joy mocking poor Walter.
The gruesome twosome also discuss what it was like working together, and just which Muppet Gervais' "Derek" co-star Karl Pilkington would be. The answer may surprise you.
"Muppets Most Wanted" is in theaters March 21.

Certain types of film fans love a bit of depravity with their popcorn, and for that very reason, I have scoured the rancid bowels of my mind to bring you these cinematic catastrophes to delight in, be repulsed with, or be morally incensed by – whatever tickles your fancy. Needless to say, if Mary Whitehouse was alive, she would probably spontaneously combust reading this.
Quite frankly, I am bored of perusing lists of controversial films with Salo, Cannibal Holocaust and Last House on the Left on them. They are highly commendable films but they have been discussed to death. The films on this list go deeper in their degree of sleaziness, depravity and nastiness and they are lesser known which makes the list that little bit more spicy. And we can all do with a little spice in our lives – even if it leaves a bitter, pungent taste…. Just like these movies do.

Anyone with a passing interest in cheesy, gory horror should be well acquainted with Herschell Gordon Lewis. For those who are just now venturing into the world of splatter, Mr. Lewis is the mastermind behind “Blood Feast”, “Two Thousand Maniacs”, and “The Gruesome Twosome”, and is considered by many to be the innovator of the gore film. The legendary director’s latest offering, the oddly-titled “The Uh-Oh Show”, appears to offer what Lewis fans have come to expect: buckets upon buckets of tasteless grue. I think it looks spectacular. Plot? You want a plot? If so, here you go: Jill Burton is a reporter who’s dead set on getting the scoop behind “The Uh-Oh! Show”, the gory TV sensation that s sweeping the nation. The premise: Get the answer right and win piles of dough, get it wrong and — Uh-Oh! — it’s off with your arms, legs, or more!

Jon Gosselin, looking like a whale out of water, took a very obvious and public stroll today in Park City, Utah, with his girlfriend of the moment, Morgan Christie. The gruesome twosome is making sure no one misses their anticipated arrival at the Sundance Film Fest, and here's how: "They just kept walking up and down Main Street," a poor onlooker describes. "They were holding hands, and it was pretty obvious they wanted everyone to see them. They kept walking up and down the same street over and over." Granted, Main is where all the Sundance action goes down, but just because it's Gosselin, gotta say it's 10 times more annoying. Jon, dressed in jeans, a black puffy coat...
