The Thunderbirds are back.
Season Two of the revived Amazon’s Thunderbirds Are Go continues the adventures of the family of heroes, International Rescue. The series highlights the five brave Tracy brothers and their covert operative Kayo and how they pilot their remarkable, cutting-edge Thunderbird vehicles to perform near-impossible rescue mission, from the depths of the oceans to the highest reaches of space.
Produced by ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures with Weta Workshop, the series is made with a mixture of CGI animation and live-action model sets—paying tribute to the old fans of the shows and attracting a new generation to the Thunderbirds.
Lrm had a phone interview earlier this month with voice actor David Graham, who is reprising his role as Agent Parker from the original series. We had an extensive talk over the show—both the original and the new show. It was also fun to reminisce...

First of all, if you haven’t watched the first season of Thunderbirds Are Go on Amazon Prime yet, you’re missing out on a fun series. I was very apprehensive about watching it myself and wasn’t really expecting much from it, but once I started watching I was sold. I really enjoy what this series offers, and Amazon has released the first trailer for season two.
In season two, the everyday heroes at International Rescue continue to work together to perform harrowing rescue missions across the globe. The Tracy brothers and covert ops specialist Kayo pilot their state-of-the-art Thunderbird vehicles to every corner of the world and beyond to defend people in need and fend off their arch nemesis, The Hood.
It looks like we have an exciting new season ahead of us full of action, adventure, and cheesy humor. Thunderbirds Are Go is set to be released on Amazon on November 4th!

Love them or hate them, reboots are here to stay -- until they get remade once again. And while some franchises are better left alone (cough, cough, "Fuller House"), others are even stronger the second time around, especially when you're not old enough to remember the original. Here's a look at the best and worst kids' shows making comebacks faster than you can say "cannibalizing my childhood."
'The Powerpuff Girls' (1998 - 2005)
Way back in 1998, Cartoon Network did something amazing and produced a cartoon that was equal parts "Spider-Man," "My Little Pony," and Ms. Magazine: "The Powerpuff Girls." Audiences eager to see that girls could kick butt too responded strongly, keeping the show on the air for seven years. The carefully crafted blend of silliness, standard villain plots, and adorable sisters charmed kids all over the world, spawning merchandise, cosplay, and even a full-length feature film. So naturally, a reboot was inevitable,...

One of the pleasures of coming to conventions like WonderCon is finding the hidden gems that you run into completely on accident. I got into room 151 early to make sure to catch the new the Voltron panel and was treated to the Thunderbirds Are Go panel, which turned out to be surprisingly awesome!
Thunderbirds was an interesting show that I would watch as a kid because it came on right after Doctor Who on Saturdays. When I say interesting, I mean completely kooky. The sets were elaborately done and the characters were puppets. This is the show that heavily inspired the film Team America World Police. I would watch it out of the pure fascination that a show like this existed.

Sylvia Anderson oversees a design meeting for Stingray.
Sylvia Anderson, co-producer of the iconic Supermarionation series including Thunderbirds, passed away at her home in Berkshire at the age of 88, after a brief illness.
Her daughter Dee Anderson said of her, “Her intelligence was phenomenal but her creativity and tenacity unchallenged. She was a force in every way,”
Sylvia worked with her husband Gerry on all of their puppet shows, becoming a co-producer starting with Stingray. She voiced numerous characters for the shows, but is best known for portraying International Rescue’s London Operative, Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward in the classic series Thunderbirds.
Her ex-husband Gerry passed away in 2012 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. The production company named after him recently produced three new episodes of Thunderbirds in the classic Supermarionation style, using soundtracks of audio plays released on record during the show’s original run. The Gerry Anderson toys that arrived in the 1990s may have been a little bit shonky, but they provided hours of fun...
Millions of years ago, in 1992, the BBC made a very wise decision: it broadcast the Gerry Anderson series Thunderbirds on its second channel. Back in those days BBC 2 on Sunday mornings (and 6pm weekdays) appeared to be curated entirely for geeks, with episodes of Star Trek, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica and further Gerry Anderson series such as Stingray and Captain Scarlet being broadcast alongside Shooting Stars and This Morning With Richard Not Judy. It was hella formative.
The renewed popularity of Thunderbirds had led to Matchbox releasing a Tracy Island playset. This became a must-have Christmas item, to the extent that fights were reported over the remaining sets in stores. With supply failing to match demand Blue Peter - the BBC’s flagship-show-named-after-a ship’s...

Like many great visionaries, Gerry Anderson was never one to be content with his achievements and just settle into retirement. Far from it in fact, and like a true perfectionist he instead believed that despite an impressive career spanning six decades, his most celebrated series still had untapped potential.
Alzheimer’s may have claimed his life early in this new show’s development, but considering Thunderbirds’ own 50th Anniversary ended with a Tracy Island playset as a Christmas list favourite yet again, it’s safe to say Anderson’s enduring legacy is far from in any need of rescue.
As a rebooted series Thunderbirds Are Go was always fated to endure comparisons, and although it may have created yet another generation of fans, those who remember the original from its first, second, and even third broadcasts (not to mention DVD releases) have met this latest...

It's 1965 all over again... with a brand-new episode of Thunderbirds coming soon.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Gerry Anderson's classic series, three new episodes have been produced, using the original's 'Supermarionation' techniques - and now we have a teaser for the first instalment, 'The Abominable Snowman'.
The new shows uses vocals recorded by the original Thunderbirds voice cast back in the '60s, for a series of audio productions.
Director Stephen La Rivière used Kickstarter to fund the new productions, which adds classic puppet visuals to the old recordings - and it looks pretty darn authentic to us.
3,378 backers have pledged £218,412 to help bring the project to life - and funding is the only way that fans will be able to watch the new episodes, receiving a DVD / Blu-ray of the finished product.

5-4-3-2-1... Thunderbirds are go - and they've been going an incredible 50 years.
It's been an entire half-century since the Tracy brothers, their father Jeff, eccentric inventor Brains, and - of course - Lady Penelope and Parker first hit our screens, with the first episode of Thunderbirds transmitting on September 30, 1965.
But for kids, it wasn't the characters that were the real stars of the show - it was those incredible ships that gave the show its name. Everyone's got a favourite - and now we're asking you to pick yours.
The rules are simple: make your pick from the classic fleet, Thunderbirds 1-5. No pod vehicles, no Fab 1 and certainly no Thunderbird 6. Go!

The director behind Filmed In Supermarionation doc plans to film 3 audio-only 1966 Thunderbirds stories using original puppet technique...
Those who stuck with it will know that ITV's recent revival of Thunderbirds is acquitting itself pretty well over the course of its run. Crammed with action, its fun, eventful adventures are lively and entertaining family fare, all to the credit of its creators.
One thing it isn't though, and few will argue with you on this, is Thunderbirds of old.
If a return to the past is what you're after, then director Stephen La Riviere is your man. After making celebrated documentary Filmed In Supermarionation, La Riviere now plans to use the puppets produced for the purposes of that doc to bring to life three 1960s audio-only Thunderbirds episodes featuring the original voice cast, that have never before been adapted for screen.

Thunderbirds are go, again! The classic show is making another comeback - this time in puppet form.
Director Stephen La Rivière will adapt audio-only recordings from 1966, turning them into three new episodes made in the classic Thunderbirds style.
La Rivière will use the puppets and sets he faithfully recreated when making 2014 documentary Filmed in Supermarionation, which took a closer look at the production methods used in the original series.
Pre-production is underway after the Thunderbirds 1965 project launched a Kickstarter page earlier this month and passed its £75,000 target.
La Rivière said: "For Filmed in Supermarionation, we shot new sequences with the puppets using the old fashioned techniques.
"Whilst many of the methods used seem a little archaic and time-consuming by today's standards, we thought that it would be very special to do a one-off project bringing Thunderbirds back to life 1960s style."
He added: "Sadly, many of the original voice cast have passed away since 1965. However,...

From Primeval to Merlin and Atlantis, Doctor Who's return spawned a host of Saturday teatime dramas that have since disappeared. What next?
It’s Saturday night. BBC 1 is showing Doctor Who. It does this a lot, generally speaking, and has done on and off (sometimes very off) for over fifty years. When the show returned in 2005 it brought with it the realisation that there was a huge family audience un-catered for on Saturday nights, and unfortunately Doctor Who was only on air for a quarter of the year, so it couldn’t do it all by itself.
ITV quickly realised it needed to attract that audience too, and while it had gameshows that dominated the schedules it didn’t have anything like Buck Rogers In The 25th Century or The A Team to put up against the BBC this time. And time was of the essence: new shows had...

The BBC’s The Musketeers will have to cope without its showrunner Adrian Hodges for its already-confirmed third series…
Here’s an interesting one – Adrian Hodges, creator and showrunner for the BBC’s The Musketeers, won't be signing on for the third series.
A third run for the family-friendly historical action drama has already been confirmed by the BBC (we can expect it early next year, if previous broadcast dates are anything to go by), but Hodges has ruled himself out for a return.
Our friends at Geek Syndicate got the scoop on the matter, with a quote from the man himself explaining his reason for leaving his own show:
“I just felt that after the last season I was totally knackered. I love the show but it had been a very intensive two…well four years really and what I didn’t want to go was go straight into developing a new season.

I’m giddy as a schoolgirl, and I don’t know what to do with my hands.
I should explain.
Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds is as major a lynchpin of my childhood as M&Ms, my Big Jim collection, and faking sick to stay home from school…usually to watch Thunderbirds. The Tracy brothers, launching rescue missions from their secret island, was filled with edge of the seat action, staggering special effects and miniatures, and engaging character work. This is made more impressive that the characters were played by marionettes. Electronically keyed to the dialogue and incredibly detailed, but marionettes nevertheless. The show is as well-loved and respected worldwide, but most so in England, where it’s as beloved as other Sci-Fi touchstone Doctor Who. So it was rather a given that they’d go for a remake of the series eventually, and the 50th anniversary is just too tempting for anyone to pass up.

Thunderbirds Are Go! returned to our screens tonight (April 4), leaving viewers wondering whether it could top the 1960s original.
The classic theme tune and countdown open the show but there are no strings in sight for this version of Gerry Anderson's story, as the Tracy brothers move to complete CGI animation.
Initial reaction to images released of the brothers weren't fantastic - but what did Twitter think of it on-screen? Digital Spy rounds up viewers' opinions here:
Episode one drew favourable opinions, with many praising it for being a programme that the entire family can enjoy:
Hats off to the Thunderbirds remake. My show was the one I first saw in 1965. But the new one's smart & inventive & fun & I'm glad it's here

It's always a big risk tinkering with a much-loved classic - particularly something that was a big part of people's childhoods - but the creative forces behind Thunderbirds Are Go! have promised that this 2015 revamp of the '60s Supermarionation series retains all that made the original so great.
Indeed, die-hard fans will be happy to hear that a good deal remains unchanged - from the off, Peter Dyneley's stirring countdown-to-launch and the subsequent swell of that classic theme tune deliver a rush of glorious nostalgia.
But it's also more than a mere nostalgia trip, with enough changes put into place to ensure that the show works as colourful, engaging fodder for the 6-11 year-olds of today.
As befits a modern series, and one intended primarily for children, the pace is utterly relentless throughout - a lack of incident is certainly not a problem that Thunderbirds Are Go! suffers from.

Over the years, there have been several - mostly unsuccessful - attempts to bring back Thunderbirds.
However, where others failed, Thunderbirds Are Go! looks set to succeed.
Debuting 50 years after the original series first aired, Digital Spy sat down with the cast to talk comparisons to 24, why the show is "the opposite of naff" - and why fans of the original will be happy to see this incarnation of International Rescue back at work.
Lady Penelope - Rosamund Pike
"It was an easy 'yes' as soon as ITV asked me to voice Lady Penelope. It was a huge compliment and I knew it would be a very exciting adventure.
"Exploring the scenes with David Graham has been an absolute delight. The scripts are very modern, very fresh and very funny. I love working with him, and the bond between Parker and Penelope and the humour that is batted between them is really fun to play.

Thunderbird 4 took its maiden voyage on the River Thames this morning to mark the launch of the new series Thunderbirds Are Go!.
ITV's revamp of the classic '60s show will launch this Saturday (April 4) at 5pm with a special double episode.
A 15ft model of underwater rescue vehicle Thunderbird 4 departed from East London, passing iconic landmarks including Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament.
A team of TV prop builders took more than six weeks to design, construct and paint the model, which was made from fibre-glass.
In both the original and revamped Thunderbirds, Thunderbird 4 is piloted by aquanaut Gordon Tracy, and is often delivered to the danger zone by Thunderbird 2.

Thunderbirds Are Go! has an action-packed launch, but its script and CG are far from top-notch. Will the revamp live up to its potential?
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 Ring Of Fire
Not only are the Thunderbirds gang back, they’ve also been appended with “are go!” - and boy, do they ever go. Sylvia and Gerry Anderson’s much-loved show, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, screeches and blasts its way on to the small screen and doesn’t hold up for 45 minutes or so.
The puppets, and their charm it has to be said, may have been replaced by computer-generated characters, but the iconic ships and Tracy Island remain, for the most part, as beautiful standing-set models produced by Weta (The Lord Of The Rings).
This first instalment, which sees two episodes aired together as one, neatly introduces to the International Rescue troupe. All the Tracy brothers remain, though...

Thunderbirds Are Go! head writer Rob Hoegee has accounted for Jeff Tracy's absence from the animated revamp.
A pivotal character in the original '60s series, Jeff was the father of the Tracy brothers and head of International Rescue, but Hoegee recently confirmed in a Reddit Ama that he will not appear in ITV's new reboot.
Speaking at a press screening for Thunderbirds Are Go! last night (March 31), Hoegee clarified the decision, suggesting that Jeff's absence allows the show's younger characters to "shine".
"Jeff Tracy is not a character that can be sidelined or minimised in any way shape or form," he explained. "He is a huge presence - in the world of Thunderbirds and on the screen - [and] the show we're making right now couldn't be about Jeff Tracy - it has to be about the boys, and Kayo (Angel Coulby).

Thunderbirds Are Go executive producer Giles Ridge has spoken about the updated version of the show.
Ridge said that while it would appeal to a modern audience, many of the original elements would be retained.
He said: "We had no intention of messing with what already worked.
"It's a classic for a reason - it's a show that has a lot of cultural relevance for a lot of people, and so the decisions and changes we have made were not entered into lightly.
"Equally though, the series needs to appeal to a new modern audience, so whilst the iconic characters… music and story elements are largely retained, they are realised with production values that deliver an even greater dynamic and emotional experience for today's audience."
Ridge also spoke about some of the new vehicles that would appear on the show, before saying that the characters' heroism held the key to its appeal.
