The Outlaw of Red River
This film essentially begins with an outlaw by the name of "Pat O'Brien" (George Montgomery) having fled across the Red River to Mexico for the murder of his wife. At least, that is what is rumored. To that effect, his status as an outlaw compels a bandit named "Miguel Camargo" (Jose Nieto) to befriend him and when Miguel accepts a high-ranking position within the Mexican army, he chooses Pat to look after his ranch while he is away commanding his informal cavalry. Not too far away from General Camargo's ranch is an impressive hacienda owned by a man named "Don Cristobal Riano" (Jesus Tordesillas) who has seen his wealth and influence disappear because of his support for Maximillian. He does, however, have a beautiful niece living with him by the name of "Francisca Riano" (Elisa Montes) and in order to cement closer ties with General Camargo has promised her hand in marriage to him. Unfortunately, his nephew "Alfredo Riano" (Ricardo Valle) has a deep hatred for both Pat O'Brien and General Camargo and when he turns up dead the two of them are immediately suspected-and this creates problems for all concerned. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that I honestly didn't expect much from this film due in large part to the rather low rating on IMDb. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the somewhat intricate plot and the solid acting of both George Montgomery and Jose Nieto. Likewise, having an attractive actress like Elisa Montes certainly didn't hurt either. In any case, although my opinion may be in the minority, I liked this particular film and I have rated it accordingly.
