Susan Morse sang Dorothy's songs, as Susan Conway did not sing. The TV Guide for the program billed Morse as a Munchkin, presumably as Rankin/Bass did not want it publicized that Conway, who was in her first role, didn't sing.
The program was first shown on TV just two weeks after CBS's 1964 telecast of "The Wizard of Oz", with Judy Garland.
The program was first televised on the same day that The Beatles made their first appearance on American television on "The Ed Sullivan Show".
