Brian Wilson once conceded that while Pet Sounds may be his best album, Friends was his favorite. Pro wrestling is an exact art that requires considerable skill. After all, the slightest mistake can lead to severe injury or even death for someone who executes a maneuver incorrectly. That is why wrestlers spend a considerable amount of time training and practicing moves, to ensure that they don’t cause serious damage to their opponents.
However, things don’t always go as planned during a match, and mistakes can (and do) happen. Sometimes they’re minor; a mistimed spot, a poorly-executed promo, a bad camera angle, etc. Then there are the really bad botches, like broken necks, paralysis, and instantaneous retirement from pro wrestling.
Then, there those extremely rare mistakes that actually lead to the creation of entirely new moves.

The Make-a-Wish Foundation used a little extra magic to make a little girl named Addison's dreams come true, reports KHON2. Addison, who is in remission after a two-and-a-half-year battle with lymphoid leukemia, has always wanted to visit Hawaii. According to the six-year-old, the rain forests of the Aloha state are where all the pink unicorns roam. Once she arrived, "Princess Addison" was greeted by volunteer actors from Diamond Head Theatre. Dressed as lords and ladies, they led the girl through a magical journey in the tropics. As with all fairy tales, this story has a happy ending: waiting for Addison...

Professional surfer Jill Hansen is in police custody after being charged with attempted murder for allegedly ramming a 73-year-old Hawaiian woman with her car Wednesday. Hansen, 30, who is also a model with her own line of swimsuits, is being held on $1 million bail. "I parked in my normal parking place, and I got out and all of a sudden I woke up in an ambulance," the victim, Elizabeth Conklin, told ABC News. Police say Hansen waited until Conklin exited her car in the parking lot of the Diamond Head apartments in Waikiki before striking her. A bystander (identified by a...

This time, it was Alex O'Loughlin who needed help from the Hawaii authorities. The actor, 39, who is normally the one doing the saving as detective Steve McGarrett on Hawaii Five-0, needed a visit from the Honolulu Fire Department on Monday to extinguish a fire that started in his garage and threatened the rest of his $4 million Diamond Head home on O'ahu. Neighbors told Hawaii News Now that an explosion rang out around 3:45 p.m., the garage door blew off, and smoke began billowing out. Some 50 firefighters responded, and the fire was controlled by 4:11 p.m. No one was hurt.

Charlton Heston movies: ‘A Man for All Seasons’ remake, ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ (photo: Charlton Heston as Ben-Hur) (See previous post: “Charlton Heston: Moses Minus Staff Plus Chariot Equals Ben-Hur.”) I’ve yet to watch Irving Rapper’s melo Bad for Each Other (1954), co-starring the sultry Lizabeth Scott — always a good enough reason to check out any movie, regardless of plot or leading man. A major curiosity is the 1988 made-for-tv version of A Man for All Seasons, with Charlton Heston in the Oscar-winning Paul Scofield role (Sir Thomas More) and on Fred Zinnemann’s director’s chair. Vanessa Redgrave, who plays Thomas More’s wife in the TV movie (Wendy Hiller in the original) had a cameo as Anne Boleyn in the 1966 film. According to the IMDb, Robert Bolt, who wrote the Oscar-winning 1966 movie (and the original play), is credited for the 1988 version’s screenplay as well. Also of note,...

Heavy Metal is a broad term and a very broad church: there are umpteen variations on its basic theme and there are sub genres galore. However, the single thread which binds these disparate pieces is a loud, overdriven, distorted guitar wielded with intent. Non fans traditionally are quick to dismiss the music as entirely without merit and at this point I’ll say hello to Jason Isaacs who recently described the peerless Lamb Of God as, “People having some kind of epileptic fit in charge of a guitar.” Of course, the perpetual allure of Heavy Metal is that outsiders, such as Mr Isaacs, just don’t get it and for this reason it remains a consistently popular form of music, constantly shifting its shape to adapt to the times whilst managing to maintain its core appeal of rebellion.
Despite its foremost protagonists being American, heavy metal is essentially a British creation.

Ahh…Thrash. The much revered sub – genre of Heavy Metal, that has caused many an internet/bar room/kitchen table debate on whom, and what credentials, makes a band, or a particular album one worthy enough to be called ‘Thrash’! Fans of Thrash have a reputation that precedes them. Known for being elitist, close minded and stubborn they are however, some of the most enduring and devoted fans, any style of music has ever seen.
Thrash has also given us the most well known name in Metal …Metallica. They have gone on to become one of the biggest names in music, period. Not bad for four greasy metal heads from California.
Thrash Metal was a happy accident. American kids, mainly from the Bay area of San Francisco, that were fans of the Nwobhm (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal – that peaked between 1979 and 1981) mixed the sound of outfits such as Angel Witch,...

Back in the early 1980s a shocking new genre of heavy music emerged that was louder, faster and more aggressive than anything that had come before, more importantly it refreshed a bloated, stagnating heavy metal scene led by Hard Rock dinosaurs coasting on their 70′s triumphs. Flying in the face of the establishment, spotty, teenage upstarts (predominantly from America) fused the speed and snot nosed aggression of Punk with the fast upbeat tempos, power chords and ingenious guitar solos created by New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Bands such as Iron Maiden, Saxon, Diamond Head, Venom and Angel Witch.
These pioneers of Thrash took all that was good about these bands, replaced melody with primal fury and invented a new whole new genre that proceeded to take over the world, one mosh pit at a time. The innovators, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax (collectively known as the big 4) became massive stars,...

The ban on women serving on Navy submarines was lifted less than a year ago, and ABC's Thursday military drama "Last Resort" was quick to capitalize on that.
Australian actress Daisy Betts stars as Lt. Grace Shepard, the chief navigator on the nuclear sub USS Colorado, which has fled to a remote island after Capt. Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) refused what he considered to be a questionable order and put his boat at odds with U.S. forces.
Her father, Adm. Arthur Shepard (Bruce Davison), is not only Chaplin's friend but also a Pentagon bigwig.
Now that the Colorado has gone rogue, Shepard is clashing with Master Chief Joseph Prosser (Robert Patrick), who vehemently opposes Chaplin's actions.
"She gets to annoy Prosser," Betts tells Zap2it, talking under a canopy outside the sub interior set at Diamond Head Studios. "The first scene I had with Robert, it was a little intimidating.

"Why," a limo driver asks, "when McGarrett tells Danno that he's going to meet him at Pearl Harbor, they show shots of Molokai?"
Since the Hawaiian island of Molokai does not lie anywhere between downtown Honolulu and Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, it's a fair question. But who'd want to see crime fighter -- and former Navy Seal -- Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) of CBS' Monday drama "Hawaii Five-0" fight his way through city traffic rather than gazing at pristine beaches and bikini-clad surfers?
"Hawaiians have their own little gripes," O'Loughlin tells Zap2it, taking a chat break between takes on the couch in the set for his character's office, in a former newspaper building in Honolulu (the scene for most of the day's conversations). "In all seriousness, we try to show as much of Hawaii as we can."

If you think you’ve never seen this poster for William Wellman’s 1931 The Public Enemy (playing tomorrow in Film Forum’s invaluable Wellman retrospective) before, it’s with good reason. Unseen for decades, it was discovered last fall, along with about 30 others posters from the same era, in an attic in Pennsylvania. The Berwick Discovery, as it is known, was described to me by Grey Smith, Director of Heritage Vintage Movie Poster Auctions, who will be auctioning the posters on March 23, as “the most exciting find of my 35 years in the business.”
What is extraordinary about these posters is that they had not been lovingly preserved by a collector. Instead, they had initially been glued one on top of each other for display (one replacing another each time a new release came to town) and then peeled off in one stack. While most posters would have been thrown out at that point,...

Accusations will always follow Sonisphere festival – usually aimed from those most preposterously pretentious metal fans who frequent supposedly non-mainstream festivals like Bloodstock – that Sonisphere is little more than a sell-out event, aimed at watered-down metal fans of pop-edged bands who have long since let go their grip on creative integrity in favour of the almighty dollar.

If you should run into Metallica frontman James Hetfield today, toss up your most powerful metal horns and buy that dude a slice of Devil's Food cake, because it's his birthday. Hetfield is now 47 years old and aging rather well for a guy who has lived as hard as he has. As the co-founder (with drummer Lars Ulrich) and voice of one of metal's most enduring bands (and one of America's finest rock institutions), Hetfield has been responsible for some of the greatest shout-alongs in history (most notably "Exit light/ Enter night/ Take my hand/ We're off to Never-Never Land!").
Born in southern California in 1963, Hetfield was raised a Christian Scientist and began his musical exploration at age nine when he began taking piano lessons. He graduated to drums and then guitar, and he got deep into Aerosmith as well as a trend that was later described as the...

Kanye West doesn't make house calls. But apparently his car does. Witnesses told police they saw three men—none of them West—running from the scene. West, who is renting a home in the tony Diamond Head area, wasn't even on the island of Oahu at the time, a source told Kitv, but had given his cousin leave to drive the car. There was no word of whether police had talked to the cousin yet. "I looked over here and saw the car impaled in the garage," said neighbor Chris Cooper, who lives across the street from the...

Kanye West's car has allegedly been involved in a major collision. The Porsche Panamera, which the rapper's cousin was reportedly given permission to drive, crashed into an unoccupied house at around 4 A.M. on Saturday morning, June 5, near Diamond Head in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Eyewitness Chris Cooper was the first person at the scene of the collision. He said, "There was just a tremendous crash. As if a small building were coming down. I looked over and saw the car impaled in the garage. I walked over to see if anyone was dead or people in the car because I could smell liquids and I could hear them draining and no one was there."

ABC is delighting in teasing us with season 6 promos (but with no new footage, because like they to torture us).
The most recent news coming from the Hawaii Blog is a filming report taking place in a restaurant featuring two characters. Except one of them is dead. With the "reset" that is supposed to take place in season 6, it's not surprising that dead characters would return (see: Charlie and Boone), but now we have word that recently-deceased Charlotte (Rebecca Mader) will be returning to the show. And it looks like her character will be having a date with...
