After talking with Rodrigo on their wedding night, Jimena has a stern look on her face. With the next cut, slightly closer, she is visibly upset with tears streaming down her face.

Ordonez charges Rodrigo with treason while he is releasing the second Moorish prisoner, yet after he finishes, Rodrigo has already released the third prisoner.

The interiors are far too bright for medieval castles.

When he is fighting another king's champion, the figure of Rodrigo, as he is being run into by his opponent's horse, is clearly a motionless stick-figured dummy with Rodrigo's armor on it.

One of Cid's foot soldiers falls forward as he runs into battle, and his tabard blows up revealing a pair of blue jeans complete with a patch on his left buttock pocket.

After El Cid has been exiled, he's on his horse, with one trailing, riding through the desert in the morning with the sun as the only light source. But on the mountains in the background, two sets of shadows can be seen.

When Ben Yussuf commands the gates of Valencia to be opened, the gates wobble back and forth quite noticeably, and clearly are not robust oaken and iron heavy doors.

The closing moving sequence of El Cid strapped to his horse is effective - unless one notices the car in the background.

After El Cid has been wounded, the army of Ben Yusuf marches along the beach crying 'The Cid is Dead'. In the background, around the curve of the beach, a large white box van is driving along behind the army.

The little girl at the well speaks with the voice of a woman many years her senior.

When El Cid and his army are charging down the beach at Valencia, the tire tracks from the camera truck are briefly visible in the sand.

At the end, when El Cid rides out the castle gates, the cheese cutter hat of one of the crew members can be seen.

When El Cid, Moutamin, and Ordonez are marching across the beach to capture Valencia, there is a shot of Charlton Heston on horseback with the troops, the tents, and the smoke of the camp behind him. A huge black van/limo is visible driving across the landscape behind the tents.

Alone and on horseback, Rodrigo confronts a group of mounted guards escorting the prince to a dungeon. In response to Rodrigo's demand for the release of the prisoner, the captain of the guard laughingly says, "There are thirteen of us, and you are alone!" In the ensuing fight, Rodrigo, with some help from the prince, unhorses sixteen guards, and two remaining mounted ones flee, for a total of eighteen.

The bearded assassin, who kills Prince Sancho, gets his comeuppance from the Cid outside the castle gates. The same character is later seen in the background during Cid's deathbed scene.
