Those who had to leave
Petey-105 May 2011
The story of the Karelian people having to leave home during the Second World War touches many of us.This tells the story of one family that are forced to leave.Evakko (1956) is directed by Ville Salminen. This movie was his own personal favorite, and it has gotten some fine reviews from the critics.Unto Seppänen wrote the novel this movie is based on.Santeri Karilo gives a terrific performance in the lead as Aato Nikkanen. He won a Jussi award from his performance.Linda Lampinen is very good as Ulla Nikkanen.Aino-Maija Tikkanen is amazing as Elvi Nikkanen.Eila-Kaarina Roine is great as Sirkka Nikkanen.Tauno Söder is excellent as Arvo Nikkanen.Kaarlo Wilska is superb as Risto Havia.Sakari Jurkka is brilliant playing Otto Kiesi.Great job by Matti Kuusla, who plays Salu Yllö.Matti Oravisto gives a great portrayal of Tauno Tuomaala.Uljas Kandolin plays Aluepäällikkö.Ville-Veikko Salminen is Nuori Vänrikki.Pia Hattara portrays Aliopettaja.Mai-Brit Heljo is Purakselan Rouva. The movie manages to touch in many places.Like when Aato has to burn some houses of his home village.Evakko also tells the story of these people very realistically. There are only a few minor flaws in this picture, but those don't spoil the movie experience. And this is an important movie, which you should see.
