In contrast to the standard procedure in the 1950s, the first season was filmed in color and to cut costs the second season was in black & white. The producers had originally thought that color TV would progress faster than it did.
As already noted, this show was mentioned in Back to the Future between Crispin Glover and Michael J. Fox. Coincidentally, an actor named Michael Fox (no relation) appears in seven episodes. This actor, who worked until the 1990s, is a reason the J. had to be inserted in Michael J. Fox's name.
In Back to the Future (1985), George McFly tells his future son Marty that he can't go to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance with his future wife Lorraine Baines on November 12, 1955 as he'll miss his favourite television series Science Fiction Theatre (1955). He does eventually go to the dance, missing The Hastings Secret (1955) in the process.
Among the directors hired for the series were ones who would become famous for directing science fiction/horror feature films, including Jack Arnold, Herbert L. Strock, Lew Landers and William Castle.
Final film of Virginia Hunter.
