The longboat used for the German steamship of the Gadefreude Company, and the longboat used for the old Chinese Junk that O'keefe acquired in Hong Kong, appear to be exactly the same boat. It's hardly possible that the old Chinese Junk and the German steamship would have exactly matching longboats.
When Sien Tang shows O'Keefe his ship, the shot is obviously just a painting of a shipyard, and not a very convincing one.
The movie was filmed in Fiji, and the culture and languages portrayed are Fijian/Polynesian, not Yapese/Micronesian.
When O'Keefe's mutinous crew throws him overboard at the beginning, he climbs into the lifeboat being towed by his ship. A crewman is then shown cutting the tow line, but when the camera cuts back to O'Keefe in the boat, the line is still taut and leading up to the ship. Only later is the severed line shown floating slack in the water.
When Dalabo says "Don't walk so fast, my high heels!", it is obviously dubbed, possibly by a different actress.
O'Keefe returns to Hong Kong and stock footage is shown of people walking down a street. However, the movie is set in the 1870s and the footage is of 1950s Hong Kong. Giveaways include signs such as "No Motors".
In the quarry was an Easter Island stone head. Not related to Fiji.
