As the marines are leaving the Oakridge station, a billboard behind them is advertising The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943), another film by Preston Sturges.
When the six Marines, led by Sgt. Heffelfinger (William Demarest) are in the nightclub and go to see who bought them a beer, the scene at the bar lasts for 5 minutes, 11 seconds, in one continuous shot. Eddie Bracken as Woodrow Truesmith impressively manages to include in his dialogue a long list of battles in which the Marines fought from 1775 through 1944 when the film was in production.
"The Screen Guild Theater" broadcast a 30-minute radio adaptation of the movie on November 5, 1945, with Eddie Bracken reprising his film role.
Al Bridge is listed in the credits as the "Political Boss," but he is referred to as "Jake." He sends out an inquiry by telegram to the San Diego Marine Base and receives a telegram reply that is addressed to "JACOB F BRIDGE."
