Filming began October 6, 1941, and release took place on April 17, 1942. Patric Knowles finished this film before starting "The Wolf Man" on October 27, both films copyrighted 1941.
Actress Anne Gwynne claimed because the script wasn't completed by the time production began, much of the dialogue is ad-libbed.
Part of the original Shock Theater package of 52 Universal titles released to television in 1957, followed one year later with Son of Shock, which added 20 more features.
The only film featuring future Stooge, Shemp Howard, and The-Stooge-That-Never-Was, Mantan Moreland. After Shemp's death Moe Howard tried unsuccessfully to have Columbia Pictures hire Moreland as Shemp's replacement. Reportedly, it was Shemp himself who had earlier proposed the idea to brother Moe on a just-in-case basis. It is likely that their extensive banter in this film put Mantan on Shemp's radar.
