This is one of about three dozen British films picked up by CBS in 1949 for USA television presentation; as part of this series, its initial telecast took place in Baltimore Saturday 30 July 1949 on WMAR (Channel 2),; it was re-telecast in its complete form in New York City Saturday 1 October 1949 on WCBS (Channel 2), and first aired in Los Angeles 9 January 1950 on KLAC (Channel 13) and in Boston Sunday 23 April 1950 on WNAC (Channel 7). Previously, it had been shown both theatrically in the USA, re-edited and re-titled as The Strangler, and distributed by PRC; as such, it was telecast 20 May 1946 on WNBT (Channel 4).
As befits a classical actor, many of Struhberg's lines are quotes from plays - particularly "Othello", Macbeth" and "Hamlet" all written by William Shakespeare.
Penny's comment about being assigned to the flower show "Who do you think I am? Beverly Nicholls?" is a reference to Beverley Nichols (1898 - 1983), an English writer, playwright and public speaker, most often remembered for his books about his homes and gardens.
Tamsie reads from the flower show catalogue "... brilliant bedding pansies", and Penny responds "That might be misunderstood." This is a gay reference that has slipped past the censors.
