- Lord Peter Wimsey: What seems to be the trouble?
- Insp. Andrew Kirk: We're reconstructing the crime.
- Lord Peter Wimsey: From the noise we heard upstairs you're obviously going on the theory that Mr Noakes was killed by a herd of buffalo.
- Mervyn Bunter: I'm afraid it's my fault, mylord... Inspector was Noakes and I was the assassin...
- Lord Peter Wimsey: Apparently one of great brutality.
- Insp. Andrew Kirk: [addressing Lord Wimsy while they were searching on the moors] Well, come on, we want to be in on the kill.
- Lord Peter Wimsey: I ah, I think I'll wait here, if you don't mind, my ah,feet ache.
- Insp. Andrew Kirk: Well, so do mine.
- [impatiently]
- Insp. Andrew Kirk: What's the matter with you?
- Lord Peter Wimsey: Well, I have a slight headache too.
- Insp. Andrew Kirk: [mockingly] Oh, you poor little fellow.
- Insp. Andrew Kirk: Stark, staring mad! So, you've finished with crime, have you? I give you three weeks!
