- Silky has always moved booze. During prohibition, he smuggled it from Canada, but now that it is legal, he produces his own brand. Seven years before, he sent Doc to prison because Doc was an honest man. Now that he is getting out, Silky wants an honest man as his general manager. After an English solicitor arrives to show that Silky is the new Earl of Gorley, Doc sees his chance to get Silky out of the way. But Silky takes Doc with him to England to see about selling his holdings and taking the money. While Doc knows that none of the property can be sold, he does not tell Silky. While Silky is shown all his duties and responsibilities, Doc is busy bankrupting his business in Chicago.—Tony Fontana <tony.fontana@spacebbs.com>
- In Chicago, Robert Kilmount and Quentin Ramsey - Silky and Doc respectively in more familiar circumstances - are a liquor distiller and his general manager. This relationship is a seeming improbability, as seven years ago, Doc, then a lawyer, was framed by Silky, then a bootlegger, for not accepting a bribe, that frame which sent Doc to prison at Joliet from where he has just been released. Silky offered Doc the job in seeing what a straight shooting honest guy he was, and Doc accepted in being disbarred and, needing a job, sees this position as a possible path back to being a lawyer, or so he says. Doc really has the intent to exact his revenge on Silky from the inside. They both learn that Silky has just received an inheritance from a relation he had no idea existed in England. That inheritance not only comes with vast property - and servants - but a title: Earl of Gorley, he to be known as Lord Kilmount. Silky has no intention to take over his royal duties, complete with their deep seated traditions, but only wants to liquidate his new assets - which are estimated to be in the realm of $10 million - and return to his life in Chicago. The questions then become if there is anything that could change either Silky or Doc's minds, Silky concerning his new responsibilities as the Earl of Gorley, and Doc about exacting his revenge on Silky.—Huggo
