If you thought you’d seen the last of Roobla’s alphabetical rundowns with our Halloween effort, think again. With Christmas drawing ever closer, we couldn’t let the big one pass without the A-Z film treatment, so here we go…
A is for Alastair Sim. His performance in the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol still remains the definitive portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge.
B is for Bruce Willis. You can even get Die Hard festive jumpers now – ho-ho-ho.
C is for Channel 5. This lot love to start early with the Yuletide flicks; in fact I’m sure I saw one during August Bank Holiday.
D is for Disney. From Snow White to Frozen, they’ve made family entertainment into an art form, especially at this time of year..
E is for elves. Played by Dudley Moore and Will Ferrell amongst others, they’ve served Santa well over the years.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are giving friends and family an extra day to recover from their wedding because they're reportedly tying the knot over Memorial Day Weekend. The wedding date is set for Saturday, May 26 ... according to one British tabloid. That would work out perfectly not only for their American guests, but also the Brits. That Monday is a Bank Holiday in the UK. As we reported, they're getting hitched at St. George's Chapel...

With A Bad Moms Christmas now in cinemas. it seems there are plans for Bad Moms 3 and beyond...
Arriving in UK cinemas today is A Bad Moms Christmas, the fast-turnaround sequel to last year’s sleeper hit, Bad Moms. The film brings back the core cast, led by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn. Also back for the sequel are directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
Press screenings have been thin on the ground for this one, as they were for last week’s Jigsaw. But Lucas and Moore seem confident in their film, and are hinting at many more adventures to come. As Lucas said on the red carpet for the movie, “there have been eight Fast & Furious movies. You can only make a movie this quickly if everyone is on the same page. The cast and crew were so good. Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions – an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll – a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all.

Horror Channel FrightFest takes place in London this weekend. Here's our pick of films to look out for...
Summer’s almost over and what better way to welcome in the spooky season than by hiding from the heat in a darkened room, with five days of wall-to-wall horror? Yep, it’s August Bank Holiday and that means the 18th annual London Horror Channel FrightFest is upon us. For some, this is a familiar pilgrimage. Veterans will be used to bloodshot eyes, numbness in the spine, a lack of nutrition and an acute anxiousness every time there’s a loud noise. For others, it may be their first visit and these are things to look forward to. Either way, FrightFest promises probably the biggest, purest, uncut dose of horror you can endure without going insane, complete with special guests, world premieres, live events and at least a couple of parties.

With only four weeks till the start of the festival, Frightfest organisers have announced not only some of the guests set to appear over the August Bank Holiday weekend, but also the addition of another film to the line-up! The 150 plus guest-list this year is as vibrant and eclectic as ever, with nearly 40 of the films represented… New to the film line-up is Jackals, Kevin Greutert’s potent blend of horror thriller, home invasion terror and murder cult chiller, which stars Stephen Dorff and Deborah Kara Unger. The film is scheduled for Saturday 25th August, 4pm and 4.30pm in the main screens at the Cineworld Leicester Square.

Horror Channel FrightFest has today unveiled this years official artwork for the festival, once again from artist Graham Humphreys, which celebrates a return to one of FrightFest’s former homes (The Empire) and the revival of some familiar characters to the festival line up, such as Chucky, Victor Crowley & Leatherface – all of whom were inspirations behind the concept; which – to me – screams the “many faces of horror”, so apt for the multi-faceted genre that is horror…
Says Humphreys:
My image is an attempt to amalgamate the Gothic roots of horror with the 70s Monster revival that saturated the Us and UK, inspiring generations of filmmakers that created some of the most successful film franchises and oddities of the last 40 years. Universal monsters meets 70s bubble gum pop. I also thought it would be fun to play with the idea of a FrightFest Phantom, the face behind the best in horror...

Fancy taking a “trek” across the UK this Whitsun Bank Holiday? It could take a different form from that which you imagine, if you make a beeline for Star Trek: The Exhibition, in Blackpool, and take to the controls of the USS Enterprise!
Whether you’re an avid Trekker, or more of a nostalgia-filled Trekkie, you’ll absolutely love the walk down memory lane that stepping into this amazing prop, costume, photo and set-piece emporium of the Enterprise, and all spaceships that came after her in the Star Trek franchise, provides.
Who could resist the opportunity to be beamed up – by app – in the Star Trek ‘Transporter’, or have their picture taken alongside the El Baz shuttle from Star Trek: The Next Generation. With over 100 original items to view, facts to read and appreciate, and even the chance to buy yourself a Captain Kirk shirt, Uhura dress, collectible, or Tribble in the gift shop,...

Wage slaves of the world, unite and rejoice! It’s Bank Holiday weekend and we all get an extra day off! Even the most dedicated artist deserves a break once in a while and London is here to provide plenty of entertainment and distraction. Bier ist gut, ja?Put down that script and kick back, you’re in London and we like to drink almost as much as our German neighbours. Bank Holiday Monday (May 1) was made for this magnificent Bierfest taking over Mile End Park. Foaming steins, live oompah bands, men in lederhosen—this Bavarian beer festival has it all. As sensible Germans say “Feiere diesen zusätzlichen Tag aus der Arbeit,” which according to Google translate means “Celebrate your extra day off!” (Tickets: £5) And I am telling you, I am going. It won two Olivier Awards, gave “Glee” star Amber Riley a serious theatrical career boost, and now American...

Christmastime is here. Presumably you already have chestnuts roasting on an open fire, a turkey and some mistletoe, and your first screaming argument about who’s cooking for who and where. ’Tis the season for such timeless traditions, and along with a collective craving for manifestly ill-judged food combinations and a moratorium on our disapproval of comedy knitwear, classic Christmas movies are now a vital part of the great yuletide experience.
But what precisely is a classic Christmas movie? Timeless vintage offerings like Holiday Inn and Miracle on 34th Street are stuffed from titles to credits with all things Christmassy, yet you’ll also find films like Casablanca and The Great Escape on many festive film lists, which have nothing more to do with Christmas than Cannibal Holocaust.

FrightFest 2016, the UK's premier horror film festival, runs over the forthcoming August Bank Holiday weekend. With over sixty movies set to screen, plus their short films showcase, Andy Nyman's very popular quiz and several industry-related talks and events, FrightFest continues to expand its brand and deliver a varied selection of titles from across the globe. The anointed one (this year's opener) is Sean Brosnan's southern Gothic thriller My Father, Die. Starring Brit actor Joe Anderson (The Ruins, The Crazies), it's sure to be a damn sight better than 2015's Cherry Tree. Also up to bat on opening night, after My Father, Die, is the latest Stephen King adaptation, Cell, starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. The Hollywood stars reunite after 2007's devilishly good 1408, also a King adaptation.

Doctor Who warps back on to our screens in two short days, with the premiere of a new 12-part series of sci-fi, sonic screwdrivers and Capaldi attack eyebrows.
But while the BBC has broadcast more than 800 episodes of generation-defining time travels, there's been as many cracking scripts that never made it to our TVs – from key character deaths to Jk Rowling cameos.
1. Jk Rowling vs. wizards
Russell T Davies' first idea for the 2008 Christmas special was to have the Doctor meet Jk Rowling - playing herself - with the pair battling wizards and witches.
David Tennant wasn't fond of the idea - he felt it sounded like a spoof - so Davies quashed the story to placate his leading man. In its place, we got 'The Next Doctor', which was pretty magical in its own right - so no damage, no foul.
2. Stephen Fry's 1920s adventure

Things got strange in Dublin on this Bank Holiday afternoon, when a giant Minion balloon, used to advertise a local funfair, somehow got loose, and, due to high winds, went barrelling down the Old Swords Road. No doubt looking for a super villain to follow. Save for one car losing a wing mirror, there was no damage or injuries caused by the massive yellow guy, and the Gardai were called and let the air out of the inflatable. Thanks to Erin Van Londen for the photographic evidence of this surreal event.

Mark Wright was ''prepared to blag'' to get freebies for his wedding. The former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star - who is tying the knot with ex-'Coronation Street' beauty Michelle Keegan over the Bank Holiday weekend - reportedly left his wedding planner heading for the door after he tried to wrangle as much as possible for free. A source said: ''Mark has been prepared to blag anything - the venue, the flowers, a limo. It's the biggest day of his life, but he has seemed to treat it more like a PR business transaction. ''He seemed to expect everything handed to him...

Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan have splashed out on Rolex watches for each other. The couple - who are getting married over the Bank Holiday weekend - have reportedly spent a combined £52,000 on the fancy jewellery. A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: ''They wanted to get something for each other that they would use every day. And they both love their bling. Some might say matching watches are a bit tacky but these aren't just cheap knock-offs. ''They'll last them a lifetime, like they hope their marriage will. £52,000 might seem like a lot but they actually got them at...

After 30 years away, Mad Max makes a blistering return to our screens this week with Tom Hardy taking on the role made famous by Mel Gibson back in the '80s.
Director George Miller's films are notorious for one thing: tyre-screening, metal-crunching, gear-shifting car chases. To mark Max's comeback, Digital Spy takes a look at some of cinema's greatest ever vehicular pursuits below...

Tearing through San Francisco in a Ford Mustang 390 Gt, Steve McQueen pretty much re-wrote the rule book when it comes to movie car chases in his '60s classic Bullitt. Nobody has looked this cool behind the wheel on the big screen before or since.
2. The Italian Job (1969)
Michael Caine's swinging '60s caper is a staple of Bank Holiday viewing, and even as it approaches its 50th anniversary it still holds up as great viewing. The Italian Job turned an unlikely car -...

So, at least for Nerdly, Play Blackpool 2015 is over for another year. As I write this it’s Sunday night and Play’s doors have closed for the day – however it is on for one more day, the first time the event has been a three-day affair in its history) There may be other “Play” events but nothing quite like Blackpool.
Maybe its the hotel and exhibition centre the event is held in, or maybe its the seaside town location but the experience of a Play Blackpool event is totally unlike any other in the UK gaming convention calendar. And that’s a good thing. Even if, talking to many a repeat convention go-er, this years event was apparently lacking compared to last years.
As someone for whom this was their first Blackpool event, yet as someone who had attended last years Manchester convention, you couldn’t help but feel...

Film critic Danny Leigh will be talking us through how Twin Peaks changed the TV landscape at 4pm on Monday the 6th of April...
"There are many stories in Twin Peaks - some of them are sad, some funny. Some of them are stories of madness, of violence. Some are ordinary. Yet they all have about them a sense of mystery - the mystery of life. Sometimes, the mystery of death."
A few introductory words from the Log Lady there, ta Maggie.
Should your rained-off barbeque/Diy plans for this UK Bank Holiday Monday take you within range of a functioning radio, may we suggest you tune in to this damn fine looking half-hour documentary on the legacy of Twin Peaks?
The doc, presented by film critic Danny Leigh with contributions from Richard Ayoade and more, airs at 4pm on Monday the 6th of April. It promises to revisit how,...

There are many ways to celebrate Presidents Day…presumably. The American holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honour of George Washington’s birthday is functionally like a Bank Holiday – with some states also choosing to celebrate Lincoln and Jefferson’s birthdays – but it’s also a good excuse to bone up on some of your Us history.
Whether you’re intimately acquainted with this history of the United States’ governance or not, there’s a lot you probably don’t know about what happens in the White House. For every Nixon conspiracy that comes to light there are dozens more that are never made public, and for every Clinton-Lewinsky scandal there’s loads that get successfully covered up.
Then there’s the really weird stuff. If you think that Ronald Reagan’s public persona – the matinee idol-turned-right wing politican – was odd, that’s nothing...
