Following up on Tambay’s piece on Paul Robeson and the need for a bio-pic about his life and career (Here), comes news, perfect timing in fact, that Turner Classic Movies will broadcast Robeson’s 1935 British film, "Sanders of the River," on Tuesday, June 24 at 11:30Pm (10:30Pm Central). It was was a breakout film for Robeson in many ways, though it clearly was not one that turned out the way he wanted, or even remotely liked. And despite his many legendary accomplishments in sports while in college, on the stage, in music and in political activism, it's fair to say that Robeson's film career was not the greatest. And that’s not just my own opinion. Robeson himself...

Despite his many legendary accomplishments it's fair to say that Paul Robeson's film career was not stellar. And it’s not just me saying that. Robeson himself said on several occasions that his film career was more disappointing than he would have liked. Of the 13 films he made from 1925 to his last film in 1942, before giving up on films altogether, many of them he, no doubt, went into with the best of intentions. This past week Criterion put up a ton of new content on their Hulu Plus page, a number totaling 37. What’s even more interesting is that they put 10 films that aren’t in the collection or any of their Eclipse sets either, which is always an exciting time for film fans everywhere. As per usual, I’ll be listing the films with the links to their respective pages. This entry will just focus on the non-Criterion collection films for the moment. Also, to keep this article going, please sign up using this link. I’ve already had one person do so, and every time one of you does so, it gives another 2 weeks. So a huge thank you to anyone who signs up.
