- When Tim Hanlon arrives to tell Ruth McArthur her long lost brother has been killed, she mistakes him for her brother. He stays on to help her retain control of the dam her farther started. - Ruth McArthur (Billie Seward), possessor by her dead father's will, of his ranch and a partly completed river dam, is asked by crooked lawyer Eric W. Gillis (Robert McKenzie) to sell out to to saloon-keeper Henry De Long (Wheeler Oakman), the political boss of Solano Basin. She refuses, pending arrival of her brother Alan (Rex Lease), whom she has no seen since childhood. DeLong sends hired gunman Bill Slater (Jack Rockwell) to kill Alan. Tim Hanlon (Tim McCoy) rides along the trail in time to intervene when Slater tries to ambush Alan. But later, in Guntown, Slater shoots and kills Alan and escapes. Guntown Sheriff Nolan (Jack Clifford) arrests Tim, who tricks him and makes him prisoner in turn, then explains, releases him, and leaves to search for the real killer, promising the sheriff he will return and put himself in custody, if does not run down Alan's assassin by the end of two weeks. Tim goes to the McArthur ranch with the letter written by Ruth to Alan. She takes him for her brother. He does not undeceive her, as his coming discomforts De Leon and Gillis who desist from their attempts to terrorize Ruth and leave. Tim forces De Long and Gillis to surrender the blueprints of the dam. He finds that the executives of the Sierra Water Company of Santa Fe are willing to pay a high price for dam once it is completed. Tim hires help to complete the dam. His wagon train of supplies and equipment is attacked by De Long henchmen, a bullet explodes the powder wagon, and sever workers are injured. The sheriff arrives and arranges a plot with Tim to trap De Long and Gillis. In resisting arrest, bot criminals are beaten to the draw by Tim and killed. Meantime, Ruth has learned Tim's true identity and she pleads with him not to go away. Tim has another assignment and rides off. But their parting is a tender one and Ruth knows he will keep his promise to return.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
