Sofia Vergara has been a staple in Latin American pop culture since she starred in her first Pepsi commercial at age 17, but her first Hollywood red carpet didn't come until the year 2000 for a movie premiere that might surprise you. Back then, the 28-year-old actress made an appearance on the red carpet for Scream 3 - random, right? Little did anyone know just how much her life would change nine years later when she landed the role of Gloria on Modern Family. At the time of the Scream 3 premiere, Sofia had only appeared on Latin TV, specifically Mexican telenovelas as well as co-hosting the travel show Fuera de Serie. She made her first splash in Hollywood with a cameo in a 1999 Baywatch episode called "Boys Will be Boys", but didn't really become famous stateside until 2009. Now, Sofia is one of the highest paid actresses on TV and is married...

Dog Eat Dog aims to be your next pulpy criminal obsession, but falls short upon feeling forced into underworld seediness. There’s inherent fun thanks to magnificent character actors like Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe, yet director Paul Schrader struggles to temper depravity with meaning. Audiences find themselves stuck in a cyclical circle of prisoner’s lament, where the worst of the worst happens just because. Look no farther than Schrader’s introduction – the double murder of a mother and her moody teen. Why? “Because That’S The Kind Of Movie This Is, Motherf(#Ker” is what Schrader’s tone conveys – sometimes for the best, but never without pause.

It is an oxymoron to say that sci-fi is the future of film; Aliens have landed on Earth for as long as the silver screen has existed. What Hollywood execs do hope, and what devoted fans of the seventh art desperately need, is sophisticated space movies to legitimize the next chapter of film history, to save the species, mostly from itself. Denis Villeneuve’s new analytical thriller Arrival is a viable contender to set us in the right direction. (The following review does not spoil the crucial plot twists and points of the film, but it does discuss the general plot outline and the themes of the film).
Twelve mysteriously-shaped U.F.O.s have planted themselves in seemingly random locations around the planet, sparking predictable confusion and then panic amongst mankind. U.S. Colonel Weber, a somber Forest Whitaker, recruits Dr. Louise Banks, a renowned linguist, to crack how...

There’s something freeing in knowing that you won’t have to feel conflicted about reviewing something, in this case Dead of Summer. Sure, I’ll probably find a few enjoyable morsels here and there about this show but overall, these recaps are just going to be one big roast. Episode 2 recap begins below, and it’s a doozy. You can watch along on Hulu or on the official Freeform website, if you’re feeling masochistic.
First, let me just say that this episode title is the kind of pseudo-Stephen King nonsense I was hoping this series wouldn’t devolve into. The unending parade of pop culture references of the first episode should’ve raised red flags all over the place and naming the first episode after a GnR track was precocious enough but This is out of hand.
Anyway, the episode starts with a flashback, as usual, dating...

Clive Robert Benjamin Dunn was born in Covent Garden, London on January 9, 1920 from a family of theatrics - he was the cousin of Gretchen Franklin, Ethel Skinner in EastEnders. As a child, Dunn's life was almost cut short when he had a supernumerary nipple removed. After training at the Italia Conti School, he appeared alongside comedy legend Will Hay in Boys Will Be Boys and Good Morning, Boys during the 1930s. His career was temporarily interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War, during the course of which he spent four years in Austria as a prisoner of war after being called up as a 20-year-old. Clive Dunn has died at the age of 92. The actor passed away in Portugal today (November 7) after suffering from complications following an operation earlier this week. Dunn was best known for his role in sitcom Dad's Army as Lance-Corporal Jack Jones, famous for his "don't panic" and "permission to speak" catchphrases. Dad's Army ran from 1968 to 1977 and Dunn featured in all nine series and a 1971 spinoff movie. The surviving cast of the show reunited in 2008 to mark the programme's 40th anniversary. "My wife saw the first episode and said this is going to be a huge success and I always do what she says," Dunn said of joining the sitcom. Before he was cast in Dad's Army, Dunn had several movie roles, including Boys Will Be Boys and Good Morning Boys. He recorded a number of songs, (more)...
