Kevin Spacey, Steven Seagal and, erm, Kangaroo Jack: they all nabbed the box office top spot last decade...
By the end of the 2000s, getting number one at the American box office was a valuable marketing commodity. As such, studios pumped more and more money into making sure they at least had a great opening weekend for their product.
The consequence of this was that it was harder and harder for smaller and quirkier films to take a brief spot in the sun. Certainly towards the second half of the decade, it seems that the number one movie each week was pre-ordinained in a marketing meeting somewhere.
Still, there were some films that have since fallen out of public view that clawed their way to number one. How many of these do you remember?

Sony Pictures and Immersive Pictures have announced that the companies have begun a two-year first-look deal and have five projects currently in the works. Immersive, run by Josh Bratman who previously worked under Sony's current president of production Michael De Luca, will develop the films which Sony will help produce and distribute should they go forward.
The five films consist of three graphic novel and two novel adaptations. Comics that are becoming films include "World War Z" author Max Brooks' "The Harlem Hellfighters," Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s "Descender," and Scott McCloud's "The Sculptor" with Scott Rudin producing the latter.
One of the novels is "The Black Count," an adaptation of Tom Reiss' biography of General Alex Dumas who was father to famed "Three Musketeers" and "Count of Monte Cristo" author Alexandre Dumas. "Jane Eyre" and "True Detective" helmer Cary Fukunaga is attached to direct that film.

Do you remember back in 2002 when Kevin Reynolds—the guy who made Waterworld—made a movie called The Count of Monte Cristo? It starred Luis Guzmán and some other dudes? The one about the guy who breaks out of prison and then uses a treasure he gets told about to pose as someone else and exact revenge on those who wrongly imprisoned him? Well, it’s a little known fact that this story didn’t actually originate with the 2002 film. It was actually written by a guy named Alexandre Dumas (sounds Italian) quite a bit earlier than 2002. An even more obscure fact is that Dumas is the same guy who wrote that Three Musketeers movie that Paul W.S. Anderson made in 2011. Or something, I dunno, all of these Hollywood guys are tough to keep track of. The point of this helpful and informative history lesson is that we’re about to see another retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, one...

The Count of Monte Cristo, the 19th century tale of a falsely imprisoned young man Edmond Dantes who gains his education while jailed, last saw a big screen adaptation in Kevin Reynold’s 2002 sword-fighting movie which starred Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce. The feature was a minor hit at the time, but it has since gone on to gather quite a following. THR broke the news first that Alexandre Dumas’ ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ will receive a graphic novel update. David S. Resident Evil: Retribution

In returning to direct Afterlife, a fourth franchise installment following two mostly thrilling sequels to his Lewis Carroll-inspired “Resident Evil” adaptation (both of which he still had a hand in writing and producing), the commercially controversial Paul W.S. He might not be one of the titular legendary swordsmen, but d'Artagnan can certainly hold his own in this exclusive clip from the Blu-ray release of "The Three Musketeers."
The special edition disc hits stores on March 13th, but we have a clip from the film to get you in the mood for some swashbuckling.
In the clip, the young hero, Logan Lerman as d'Artagnan, fends off a host of bladed attackers as his companions, the Three Musketeers, look on and frankly, don't offer enough help. Not that he needs any. He kicks a great deal of ass all by himself.
Directed by the man behind the "Resident Evil" films, Paul W.S. Anderson, "The Three Musketeers" is a highly stylized take on the classic Alexandre Dumas tales. Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson star as the musketeers. The film also features Milla Jovovich and Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz.

Like most Americans, I learned about Alexander Dumas’ Three Musketeers from their countless adaptations on screen and in print. For me, it was probably Sheldon Mayer’s Three Mouseketeers reprints along with the rallying cry of “One for all, and all for one” shouted by just about every cartoon, sitcom and prime time drama at one point or another. Sure, there was the delightful two film adaptation made by Ilya Salkind that was instrumental in their approach to Superman the Movie and my kids grew up adoring the somewhat boiled down, tongue-slightly-in-cheek version from Disney with a great cast (Oliver Platt, Kiefer Sutherland, Tim Curry, etc.). It wasn’t until last year that I actually read the book in its entirety and it was a revelation.

The Movie Pool gets a Milla Jovovich fix from The Three Musketeers 3D Blu-ray!
The Set-up
The Musketeers must foil a plot by Milady (Milla Jovovich) and the Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom) against the French king and queen. Also stars Logan Lerman and Ray Stevenson.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson's 3D take on The Three Musketeers is unlike any other adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas classic. Other takes may have emphasized the comedy or the action, but this film takes the interpretation to a whole other level. Anderson's Musketeers is outrageous, silly, historically inaccurate, loud, and totally preposterous. It is also incredibly entertaining, an impressive guilty pleasure if there ever was one.
Anderson has been widely criticized as a director for his over-the-top films, but you cannot deny that they are fun to watch. The Resident Evil films, starring his real-life wife Milla Jovovich,...

Alexandre Dumas‘ novel is perhaps one of the most adapted for the big screen, and the 2011 The Three Musketeers movie is closer to the source material than the 1993 film of the same name.
Matthew Macfadyen (The Pillars of the Earth), Luke Evans (Immortals) and Ray Stevenson (Thor) play the Three Musketeers in the 2011 version, with Logan Lerman (Gamer) as hot-headed D’Artagnan. The three once-legendary French swashbucklers are now down on their luck but are called to reunite for a new mission. They must defeat Milady de Winter (Milla Jovovich, Stone), a beautiful double agent whose villainous employer has his eyes set on the French throne and pushing Europe into war.

Director Paul W.S. Anderson's (Resident Evil: Afterlife) adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers hasn't made much of an impact here in the United States, but it has reached "blockbuster status" thanks to overseas ticket sales.
According to THR, the swashbuckling 3-D romp has passed the $100 million mark in total box office after a successful opening weekend in Japan and a grossing $5.8M worldwide over the weekend, putting the movie at $101.2 million worldwide. Almost all of that comes from foreign box office, since The Three Musketeers opened in the U.S. in fourth place on its opening weekend, only earning $8.8 million. Reviews eviscerated the movie, describing it as "campy" and, worse yet, "awful."
But were only bad reviews to blame? Three Musketeers actress Milla Jovovich, who often uses Twitter to update fans about her projects, bashed distributor Summit Entertainment, remarking that they were too busy with The Twilight...

Alexandre Dumas is turning in his grave. The new Paul W.S. Anderson flick, The Three Musketeers is absolutely abismal. I refuse to spend more time than needed to describe the level of crap that is The Three Musketeers. I’ll start with a short list of reason why I despised this flick:
1. Flying machines don’t belong in this story.
2. Modern dialogue doesn’t work in this story.
3. I might have enjoyed it if it was instead titled, Resident Evil: Three Musketeers.
4. Did I mention the flying machines?
I really wanted to like this movie, I really, really did, but instead the flick made me miss the good old days when Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland were winning as the Musketeers. I know as a reviewer I’m supposed to go into great detail about the film, and all the elements that make it a whole, but every time...

Summit Entertainment's pricey "Three Musketeers" appears to be a flop as it opened rather soft on Friday, and co-star Milla Jovovich seems to know who's to blame. In early box office reports, "Musketeers" only scraped up $2.9 million on Friday, indicating that the film will likely have a debut draw of around $10, including inflated 3D ticket prices. The film cost around $90 million to produce. Jovovich, probably best known for her role in the R-rated "Resident Evil" films, took to Twitter while in Tokyo this morning to voice her disapproval of Summit's handling of Paul W.S. Anderson's 3D take on Alexandre Dumas' swashbuckling...

One of the fundamental rules of storytelling, especially in film, is to “show, don’t tell” the audience. Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers confuses the axiom for show-and-tell, elementary enough to crudely divide this swashbuckling tale into showy flourishes of action and scenes of talky exposition.
Throughout an all-cg opening, some portentous voiceover hastily establishes that, in this revisionist era, “Europe is a powder keg waiting to explode in a war that will engulf the entire continent…” of Europe. And, at the center of the turmoil, France is embroiled in a power struggle between the King (Louis Xiii) and his advisor, Cardinal Richelieu (played by Inglourious Basterds baddie Christoph Waltz). Only a few men can save the continent, of Europe, from total destruction!
Then, “tada,” The Three Musketeers title as music blares and each character makes their sneaky entrance — more ninja than musketeer, really — accompanied by splashy freeze...

The Three Musketeers
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson
USA, 2011
Alexandre Dumas’ tale of the Three Musketeers is quite probably the quintessential swashbuckler. It’s been adapted countless times in countless different languages, and is a certifiable classic of adventure and intrigue. But this latest adaptation is a prime example of what happens when you give a child the gist of the story and a copy of Final Draft.
In recent years, there has been a surge of popularity in taking classic characters and modernizing them a tad to appeal to today’s action-hungry audiences. We saw this with Sherlock Holmes, which did stay close to the core of its characters but morphed it into a stylized, more action-centric popcorn film, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which isn’t based on any specific characters but sees some famous historical and legendary figures doing battle with magical forces. The Three Musketeers is the latest victim,...

Written by: Andrew Davies, Alex Litvak
Cast: Matthew Macfayden, Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom, Freddie Fox
Hollywood has been repeatedly retelling the same classic tales almost since the beginning of filmmaking, and Paul W. S. Anderson's new remake of The Three Musketeers illustrates why: No matter how hard a particular director might try, it's hard to screw up a really good story.
Alexander Dumas' 1844 novel has been put to film dozens of times, and each movie has tweaked the story to some degree. But Anderson's version is the first one to be shot in 3D and the first one to feature giant airships mounted with flame-throwing cannons. This begs the question, did we really need a Three Musketeers with flame-throwing 3D cannons? Of course we didn't. But since we now have one, we might as well talk about it.

To be too harsh on Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers doesn't seem fair. In fact, it feels like I'd be critiquing a four-year-old for coloring outside the lines. However, even a four-year-old learns by the time they are six that to make a pretty picture you have to be less careless with your strokes. Strangely enough, Anderson has been making Hollywood features for 16+ years and it would appear all he's done is stop coloring with crayons and is now splattering his canvas with high-end 3D paint.
All things considered, The Three Musketeers has got to be one of the dumbest period actioners I've ever seen, but not dumb in the way a movie like The Mummy is dumb, in that it's brainless action. This movie is just plain dumb from the top down. It makes no sense, it's a tonal mess and hot air lifted boats take precedence...

We've already kicked you five rather surprising things you need to know about Paul W.S. Anderson's 3-D take on "The Three Musketeers," strange things like how Orlando Bloom based his flamboyant character on Ziggy Stardust and that Milla Jovovich's breasts are method actors.

While you get fair maidens in corsets and sword fights galore, Anderson introduces a whole lot of contemporary bling into the mix: steampunk airships, excellent 3-D effects and more. Director Roland Emmerich exchanges exploding cities for quills in a drama about Shakespeare. Here’s Ryan’s review of Anonymous…
Best known for his apocalyptic disaster and adventure movies, director Roland Emmerich has replaced explosions for dramatic fireworks in his 16th century passion project, Anonymous.
As the success of the The Da Vinci Code and subsequent film adaptation proved, everyone loves a good conspiracy theory. And Anonymous relates what is surely the ultimate conspiracy in literature: that the astonishing output of Shakespeare was, in fact, written by someone else.
This isn’t, of course, a new notion: since his rediscovery by the literari of the 18th and 19th century, various writers have called the attribution of Shakespeare’s works into question. Mark Twain was among the numerous high-profile figures who’ve asked the same thing: is it possible that Shakespeare, a man of relatively lowly origins, really wrote 38 enduring plays,...

Who knew the Three Musketeers were actually France’s version of the Mission: Impossible force? When we first meet them, Musketeers Athos (Matthew Macfadyen), Aramis (Luke Evans), and Porthos (Ray Stevenson) are in Italy executing a perfectly planned caper with the assistance of Milady de Winter (Milla Jovovich), Athos’ very capable lover. The operation goes without a hitch, and the foursome retire to celebrate their latest escapade, when Milady pulls a fast one, drugs the Musketeers, and promptly hands over some awesome Da Vinci plans for a flying war machine over to the nefarious Duke of Buckingham (Orlando Bloom). Oh, love. It hurts even in 17th Century France. Probably more cause all the women are wearing corsets. Let’s get it out of the way first, shall we? Despite there already being several adaptations already, this weekend will see the opening of the first 3-D adaptation of The Three Musketeers, still based on the classic story by author Alexandre Dumas, but directed by Resident Evil: Afterlife's Paul W.S. Anderson.
There might be some who cringe at the thought of Anderson, a known genre director, tackling Dumas' text, but Anderson has previously revealed that his version is "exactly the story of The Three Musketeers," only told "in a slightly different way." It will still follow a young D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman) as he travels to Paris to hopefully join the Three Musketeers — Athos (Matthew Macfayden), Porthos (Ray Stevenson), and Aramis (Luke Evans) — and will still see the evil Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz) plotting against the King and Queen. Still, that may not be enough to convince the literati to watch the movie this weekend.

There might be some who cringe at the thought of Anderson, a known genre director, tackling Dumas' text, but Anderson has previously revealed that his version is "exactly the story of The Three Musketeers," only told "in a slightly different way." The Three Musketeers
Directed by: Paul W.S Anderson
Cast: Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom
Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: October 21, 2011
Plot: When a royal necklace is stolen from the Queen of France, the Musketeers (Macfadyen, Evans, Stevenson) and the young d’Artagnan (Lerman) are hired to retrieve the priceless piece of jewelry from England, and in turn save the relations between England and France before a war starts.
Who’S It For? This particular Musketeers adaptation is made for pre-teen boys who still have trouble recognizing action clichés, and are more likely to think this movie is based on the candy bar than an actual book.
Expectations: There isn’t a lot to “expect” from a movie based on classic literature directed by the “other” Paul Anderson who directed Soldier and Resident Evil: Afterlife. I suppose I “expected” silliness.

So, from what I understand, some press screenings of Summit's The Three Musketeers have already taken place and the film currently holds a 29% rating at Rotten Tomatoes with quotes such as Michael Phillips (Chicago Tribune) saying, "Seriously: What the hell?" and Peter Howell of the Toronto Star saying, "The very existence of this film illustrates barrel-scraping desperation of the Hollywood kind." Not a good start, and it would appear that's where it will end... for now. My screening of Three Musketeers here in Seattle was originally slated for Tuesday, October 18. It was cancelled and it wasn't rescheduled. I'm debating going to a matinee on Friday morning and maybe you can help me out... Check out the newly released first five minutes of this 2011 edition of Alexandre Dumas' classic, which is also in 3D mind you, and see what you think. Worth my time, or should I say, is it...

From playing a lightning thief to a swashbuckling hero, 19-year-old Logan Lerman dons a wig, puffy shirt and fierce fencing face to play D'Artagnan, ally and friend to the noble and fearless Three Musketeers, Athos, Porthos and Aramis.
At the hands of director Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil), Alexander Dumas' famed 19th century tale of a trio of honourable fighters, and the young man eager to join their ranks, gets a modern twist thanks to its 3D visuals, a more comedic approach and, according to Lerman, a lot more gadgets.
We recently spoke to the actor, on the phone from Vancouver, about what it was like shooting The Three Musketeers in German castles, learning to fence and how Gene Kelly influenced his performance.

Their credo is succinct and memorable, their facial hair is always interesting and their fencing skills, second to none. It's no wonder Hollywood has fallen head over heels for Alexandre Dumas' Three Musketeers - Athos, Porthos and Aramis - who, along with their friend and fellow do-gooder D'Artagnan, stop the mischievous Cardinal Richelieu from starting a war.
Though the story dates back to 1844, a new 3D version of The Three Musketeers is headed to theatres this weekend, with Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) at the helm and a new band of bearded and take-no-guff men (Ray Winstone, Matthew Macfayden, Luke Evans and Logan Lerman) fighting for what they believe in.
With that in mind, we're taking a look back a handful of Hollywood's best Musketeer adaptations.

Paranormal Activity 3 opens with Three Musketeers. With both releases debuting in over 3000 theaters nationwide, money should be on the third installment in the Paranormal Activity series, topping Paul W.S. Anderson's super-exaggerated The Three Musketeers. Check this clip out, and you'll that perhaps Resident Evil-styled filmmaking wasn't the best choice for the adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic. Compare the previous two installments in the Paranormal Activity Franchise: - Paranormal Activity opened September 25th, 2009 in little locations and, thanks to clever marketing by distributor Paramount Pictures, enjoyed a super-fruitful time at the box office, grossing a massive $107.9 million from a tiny $15,000 budget. Pic when on to also post $85.4 million overseas and was scripted and helmed by Oren Peli.

All this week we’ve been putting up interviews with the cast and filmmakers from the latest version of the classic Alexandre Dumas novel, The Three Musketeers. The movie has been remade numerous times with the Oliver Reed version probably the most famous. This new version brings together a great group of actors which I had the privileged of chatting with last week before the World Premiere.
I enjoyed all of the interviews but my favourite by far was with Orlando Bloom. He’s been in so many movies and is a legend in my eyes. Often it’s difficult meeting actors as you see them on screen and can make the mistake of going in and being a bit too silly or a bit too serious and finding the balance is very hard in the 3-5 minutes that you have with them. In the case of Orlando, it was...

This week sees the release of Paul W.S. Anderson’s energetic take on Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers and a few days ago Dave had the chance to sit down with the director and his cast to talk about this new version of the classic story.
While this is a world away from the zombie hijinks of the Resident Evil series Anderson has infused 17th Century France with some of the same coup-de-pied derrière he is known for and its no surprise that Milla Jovovich pops up in the formidable role of Milady de Winter and wields her sword with the best of them.

Melbourne, Oct 9: Actress Milla Jovovich has revealed that it's a "joy" to go for work with her film director husband Paul W.S Anderson.
The couple, who met on movie sets in 2003, is working on a family-friendly remake of Alexandre Dumas's classic novel 'Three Musketeers' which is due to release this month.
Jovovich, who have found a unique work-life balance with Anderson, says she enjoys his company on the sets.
"Paul, oh God he is incredible," the Daily Telegraph quoted her as saying
"It is unbelievable the way he is able to talk to people, especially when they are doing something he doesn't like."
"There is an artform to talking to people, he has it," she added.
Anderson is also as appreciative.

For those of you who have always wanted a 3-D big screen adaptation of The Three Musketeers from the director of Resident Evil: Afterlife, your time has almost come. For those of you a little skeptical, several new preview clips have been released to convince you that Paul W.S. Anderson hasn't destroyed author Alexandre Dumas' classic story.
Anderson has promised that his Three Musketeers is "exactly the story of The Three Musketeers" but told "in a slightly different way", and will still see a young D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman) head to Paris to meet up with the Three Musketeers — Athos(Matthew Macfayden), Porthos (Ray Stevenson), and Aramis (Luke Evans). Together, they will band together to bring down the evil Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz). Just, in 3-D and featuring giant sailing ships attached to hot-air balloons that have battles in the sky with cannons. You know, "exactly the story of The Three Musketeers.

An eclectic collection of stars line up for The Three Musketeers. Here’s Ryan’s review of Paul W S Anderson's action adventure…
Taking a break from his Resident Evil series, director Paul W S Anderson brings his restless filmmaking style to bear on Alexandre Dumas’ rollicking yarn, The Three Musketeers. The result is a CG-heavy, anachronistic re-imagining along the lines of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes – an action fantasy of heaving bosoms, fanciful machinery, and jolly swordfights, it's a sexier Three Musketeers for the Assassin’s Creed generation.
Anderson’s assembled an impressive cast for his 17th century confection, which includes Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans as the musketeers (respectively, Athos, Porthos and Aramis), Christoph Waltz as the conniving Cardinal Richelieu, Orlando Bloom as the Duke of Buckingham, and Milla Jovovich as Milady De Winter. After proving they do indeed Rule the World with the aptly titled theme song for Stardust, Take That are moving back into movie-music territory for the new Three Musketeers.
In conjunction with Constantin Film/Impact Pictures, Take That today announced how When We Were Young, the last single from their number 1 album Progressed, will feature as the theme song for the forthcoming 3D film.
When asked about the theme-tune frontman Gary Barlow said: “The film is visually so rich and beautiful that our main challenge was to then match it musically.
“We’ve returned to guitars, real pianos and a conventional song structure to achieve this. We also thought that the Musketeers reminded us of ourselves.”

Chicago – Since the early days of cinema, trailers have always been the best part of going to the movies. Forget about the movies themselves. It doesn’t matter how good “Inception”, “Harry Potter”, or “Citizen Kane” is, no film can live up to that lovely shade of MPAA green which accompanies that breathtaking, legendary “The Following Preview Has Been Approved” title card. Why is that? Because films are finite.
Once they’re out there in the world, they can be measured, judged, and found lacking. But movie trailers – they’re delicious little bundles of unlimited potential. They exist in a world of pure sizzle, a realm where every day the filmmaking gods hand-deliver you polished packages of only the good parts in two minutes and twenty-five seconds or less. As trailer devotees, we here at HollywoodChicago.com are taking a look at some recent coming attractions and letting you know what we’re excited about,...

With only two weeks left until "The Hobbit" makes its big presentation at Comic-Con, we're happy for anything we can get on the upcoming films.
Fortunately for us, Total Film has a badass interview with Richard Armitage about his role as the dwarf Thorin Oakshield. His hint: we're going to be getting a whole lot more dwarves mythology than we witnessed in "Lord of the Rings."
“The book is so focused on the dwarves, so I think it’s a chance for Peter [Jackson] and Fran [Walsh] to really look at that whole race in more detail, their heritage and what they’re like as characters," he said. Sounds like a win to us!
In the news after the jump, Spike Lee looks into remaking "Oldboy," a new "Three Musketeers" trailer hits the web and "Knights of Badassdom" head to Comic-Con.

A trailer for the 3D Three Musketeers film has been released. The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (not to be confused with P.T. Anderson), and stars Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson as the titular characters. I’m wasn’t expecting big things from this adaptation/reboot but it actually looks really promising. Anderson knows how to direct action so if they have a decent script, we could see potential for another successful franchise much like Pirates of the Caribbean. For those of you interested, you can check out the trailer and plot synopsis below. Enjoy.

Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel The Three Musketeers takes place in 17th century France, and from the looks of the new trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s action-fueled adaptation, so does the movie. Well, maybe. The feature trailer showcases a couple of lavish French castles, some clanging scimitars, and whole slew of voluminous, ruffed, feathered hats, which suggests we’re headed for an adventure in the 1600s. But then, there are of glimpses fantastical airships, explosions, and strange metal contraptions that shoot out deadly spiked balls, and suddenly, we’re in a gonzo 1900. Check out the trailer below:

Hollywoodnews.com: As Hollywood continues to reboot virtually every franchise that ever existed, we’re staring down future “King Arthur,” “Sherlock Holmes” and “Three Musketeers” films. The last one on that list, in fact, is inching closer to release date, and is now teasing us with a full trailer.
Paul W.S. Anderson’s is directing a 3D remake of Alexandre Dumas’s “Musketeers” legend, which casts Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz in a polished adaptation.
Moviefone hosted the films second trailer, which gives us a better sense of the action we can expect. We’ve also got it below.
Here’s the plot, which you probably could predict. The film follows the hot-headed young D’Artagnan (Lerman) who joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (MacFadyen, Evans and Stevenson) to stop...

You gotta love Paul W.S. Anderson. At this point, he probably figured there wasn’t really anything he could do with the Three Musketeers that hadn’t already been done, so as a result he’s stuffed his version of the Alexandre Dumas tale with an obscene amount of explosives, flying ships, water ninjas, and Milla Jovovich doing her “Resident Evil” thing, complete with slow-motion projectiles flying at her from all angles. The woman just can’t seem to get away from having projectiles flying at her in 3D, it seems. Perhaps gaining a little ground a couple of big trailers due to hit in the next 24 hours Constantin Films have unleashed a new trailer for Paul W. S. Anderson’s 3D adaptation of the classic Alexandre Dumas tale The Three Musketeers, and it’s just as crazy as the first…
Given Anderson’s previous form there was little chance this was going to be a light, delicate detailing of French courtly rituals with a dash of intrigue and the occasional crossed swords, but this is more like The Matrix Renaissance. This is most definitely not your great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather’s Three Musketeers.
The Three Musketeers does have a great cast though, with Logan Lerman , Milla Jovovich , Matthew Macfadyen , Ray Stevenson, and Luke Evans joined by Mads Mikkelson , Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple with Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz, who looks resplendent in his Cardinal’s outfit and not a bit like The Spanish Inquisition.

Summit Entertainment has released a brand new poster for the Three Musketeers that just exudes some fun and crazy adventure. A lot of my colleagues are not sold on this movie, but I am really exited about it because I love swashbuckling adventure films. I think Three Musketeers can do for Summit what Pirates of the Caribbean did for Disney.

Finally, an adaptation of The Three Musketeers is arriving in the way that author Alexandre Dumas always intended: in 3-D and from the director of Resident Evil: Afterlife. Of course, sarcasm aside, Dumas died before the advent of moving pictures so he'd likely be delighted to see any movie in 2-D.
Yahoo! has revealed the first poster for director Paul W.S. Anderson's adaptation, which manages to cram every main character into it. The movie stars Logan Lerman as D'Artagnan, who joins forces with the Three Musketeers — Aramis (Matthew Macfayden), Porthos (Ray Stevenson), and Athos (Luke Evans) — to bring down the evil Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz), and while the poster includes those characters, it adds Milla Jovovich as the curly-haired Milady de Winter, Orlando Bloom as the Duke of Earring Buckingham, and Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort, who is positioned with his eye patch near Macfayden's crotch.
