Buffalo Bill, Jr. and his friend Buck (the comic sidekick) are poor and out of work. They get a job on a ranch and inexplicably the lady who runs the place instinctively knows that some crooks are planning to steal the payroll AND she knows she can trust these two brand-new employees. Eventually they save the day--thanks to technology! Oddly, this talking picture was included by Alpha Video in a collection of silent westerns. And, in addition to having a lousy quality print, the film really wasn't very good. Compared to other films from 1934, "Pals of the Prairie" is pretty bad. Not only is the plot VERY familiar, but the acting is bad and the film seemed very rushed. And, the film relied on an odd plot device of the day--the idea of a modern old west!! Yes, you see folks dressed in traditional western garb riding horses...and using radios!! Gene Autry and Roy Rogers did similar things but here the use of technology is even more obvious and weird.
So is it worth seeing? Not really, but at least it had some nice trick riding stunts that kept my interest. Otherwise, limp and clichéd.
