This "oldie" had a clever gag in the first minute when a mouse (animators have always loved mice, for some reason) is confronted with a trap and a piece of cheese. Since he's in a toy shop, the mouse goes for a toy truck that has a hook and ladder and uses it to grab the cheese. Then he puts a "detour" sign up next to the mousetrap and heads off in another direction, to the front door of the shop to let his girlfriend in. How he manages to open the big (for him) door also is clever.
The little mice use the Toy Store as an amusement park and a chance to show off their musical skills as they use all the instruments lying around. A story, of sorts, finally happens in the last couple of minutes when a mangy cat spots the mice the rodents use their ingenuity to evade the feline.
Overall, this was decent. For its time period, this probably hot stuff, still fairly new and inventive and entertaining for kids and adults 75 years ago. Now it looks pretty dated but still offers adequately-intelligent gags and a certain charm. It''s part of the "Aesop's Fables"" collection from Van Beuren Studios.
