Hubert Marischka is younger and a lot leaner than he was in Csardasfurstin ,1951 version .But I think he was still a little too old to play the estates administrator,Torok, Cuddles Zukkal, as Lampe, Marizas butler looked the same in 32 , old and acted the same as he would do in his American movies. But no one was pinching his cheeks yet.He did do that bewildered look , like he usually would do in his American movies. It looked like that this movie was shot on location at a real farm estate. The whole plot takes place all over it within the feature.Dorthea Wieck, of the first version of Madchen in Uniform fame 1931, plays the spoiled Grafin Mariza, who is attracted to her estate administrator and in love with him ,But doesn't admit it .She's engaged to Kolomon Zsupan, played by Erno Verebes. But she's not in love with him.A scene which he shows up from the city to her dinner parties,he's late for, bring her two pigs as a present. Torok love her but feels he can't get her attention also she's engaged to Kololom. As i said it takes place at a real estate, except for the spliced in Hungarian dance number which was shot in the studio and made it look like Marizas dinner guest was watching it from the patio of the house, after Torok sang and drank across the patio on the real estate. Well it seems that Torok sister Lisa , played by Charlotte Anders,is surprise visiting her Brother Torok , for whom either the Baron or the Prince is dropping off, Either one of them is the next door neighbor, She comes early and discovers Kolomon, whom she becomes attracted to and interest in even though he's engaged to Mariza.Well a misunderstanding happens when Lisas brother is glad to see her and hugs and kisses her.,Mariza sees it and thinks it's his girl friend and gets jealous of her. She end up firing Tor ,until Lisa goes up to her and explains that she's his sister. As he's packing she tries to make up to him then Cuddles have to come in and give them both a talking too .finely they make up. This excellent before Hitler German musical comedy is available in a fair print at Germanwarfilms.com 12/05/12
