The Mystery of the Young Director!!
kidboots27 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Edith Thornton was a lovely actress who while having a reasonable career was just not able to make the grade as a 1st (or even 2nd) tier actress. And with titles like "On Probation" and "Was It Bigamy?", it's obvious that toward the end of her career (in the mid 1920s) she drifted towards exploitation with William Steiner Productions. In fact the most recognized name in the film would have to be Niles Welch who plays the hero!!

Strelsa is a hopeful actress trying to make it in the "city of dramas" and after much knocking on doors is taken up by a lothario Broadway agent (Crauford Kent) who is more interested in making her his mistress than making her a star!! Meanwhile things are looking grim for her - she has been thrown out of her lodgings due to unpaid rent, then in desperation she takes the opportunity when she finds house keys to the Marbridge mansion that have been dropped in the street by Elton, the black sheep of the family. He is taking a holiday, wishing to avoid a meeting with his brother Steve (Welch) who is eager to give Elton a piece of his mind as regards his shabby treatment of his wife who now has to work in a laundry. Steve encounters Strelsa at the house and thinking she is Elton's mistress drives her from it - and right into the arms of Winthrope!! In a completely extraneous plot - Strelsa's sister shows gold digging has it's rewards when she lands a wealthy society boy as a husband!! Will the movie end happily or will virtue revolt!!

The director James Chapin is a real man of mystery, he died at 35 after directing only 6 films. I can't find out anymore about him. His father was the composer Frederic Chapin and his sister Margery was briefly married to director William Wellman in the 1920s.
