His assistant Bertie Heckenbichler has an instant crush on Hanne, who can't appreciate his looks, but his sweet nature and humor all the more. While Philip spends his day off helping the Kulka family manning the harvester, Pawel and the girls test possible canine successor candidates, to no avail, while regretting a pony was bought by a rich couple who don't even intend it to be ridden. Then it dawns both problems may solve each-other, so Bertie helps them raise cash to invent the guide equine.
- Vinzenz Grieshaber's youngest calf is ignored by the mother, so will probably die. He nor farmhand Tomasz Kulka nor his son Pawel are impressed by Paulina's eagerness to help raise it by bottle, with some help from Nelly, but she keeps dodging school and sneaking out at night, which Pwel helps cover for anyway. Pregnant mother Maria gets more attention, but herbs seller Wanda Latour gives Paulina a 'natural remedy', actually meant for human babies. Vet Philip Hansen later explains the positive effects of both these plants and 'maternal' tender loving care, while Pawel gets a little brother.
- Locals running stands at the town market take objection to newcomer 'hippie gypsy' herbs girl Wanda, especially Elke Deutrich and her husband Hans, who throws a crate at her raven and is attacked by the large bird, whom vet Philip patches up. The next night, her meadow camp and herbs garden are disturbed, so Pawel and friends ditch their first class to help repair and investigate. Town folk reconsider and make up.
- Dr. Hansen plans a weekend lake fishing with Nelly and Pawel, whose father Tomasz is persuaded to take time off for once to enjoy father-son quality time. Employer Vinzenz Grieshaber grumbles that's ill-planned in harvest season, but bugged by his wife for domestic chores soon follows with his own tent at some distance. Strangely he catches lots of trout, the others none, so they merge as he brings the fish and shares the men's tent after his mysteriously lands in the lake. Nobody had any idea the culprit, who also scavenges at their scraps at night, is a crocodile illegally released there, until it bites Vinzenz while he wades deeper in and the vet researches the wound shape.
- The fishing party is back on the farm, but can't forget about the crocodile. Pawel sneakily prepares to go hunt the monster and is picked up by injured Vinzenz Grieshaber, who acts as driver and needs to lean on the knave. A bitten dog is brought in to Bertie by the owner after a lake stroll. Greta and Nelly observe at the lake ex-con big game poacher Roy Freitag, who was hired to hunt the monster by the society which manages the lake. Before doc Hansen can intervene, Tomasz has already rushed to rescue his boy and together they confronted the monster which came on land.
- Greta's family and friends prepare a sendoff party as she's about to spend a year in the USA. Boyfriend Jonas Grieshaber hesitates whether to attend, even before his faithful dog Oswald makes a bad fall while courting another St. Bernard dog. It all complicates the elaborate preparations for a party act starring the family pet dogs, despite Bertie's best efforts.
- Spoiled brat Constanze Elsässer is thrown off by the expensive horse Dakota her father bought, which she took for a ride against wise manage staff advice. She even ignores Nelly(s urging to spare her wounded leg and leave the search to adults, until the pain becomes unbearable. With Dr. Philip Hansen and Annette away tending to sick grandma, the girls bicker over domestic chores, neighbor Josephine Grieshaber cooks well but can't control them.
- Initially Philip Hansen plays down the threat of hornets nesting in his attic, but the super-wasps soon penetrate the house and surgery when prodded by two enterprising but bumbling schoolboys, Gustav the nerd and dumbo Dominic, who promise to suck up the scary bugs 'cheaper then the fire department', which arrives late as fire chief Vinzenz Grieshaber insists on written permission from the ministry to remove the protected species due to heath hazard, which doc gets fast. Bertie is late, having failed his theoretic test preoccupied with the far move of his beloved Hanne, even doc admits his ideal assistant may have to follow his heart geographically.
- Brilliant nerd Gustav Ott has joined a school for the super-gifted and prepared a video magic show as humorous goodbye. Pawel needs a new buddy and teams up with adventurous dumbo Dominik. After the class visit to an expensive theme park was switched for a local walk even Pawel's family can afford, the new cahoots drift off and liberate a buzzard from a poacher's poisoned rabbit trap. They dream of training him, hidden in the old castle ruins, which even have a suitable cage, but realize the game will soon be up as they were followed and found by nosy girls, who alert doc Philip, who has the bird of prey collected by its owner, but welcomes the mini-camera recording which allows identifying the poacher.
- Widower organ builder Stiller is greatly attached to his caged parakeets, but they bred too numerous, so he gets doc Hansen's advice to find a new home for some. Pawel and the girls volunteer to find takers through the school. Collecting some cages, they stumble across a family picture of Stiller with classmate Jessie Nagel's mother Isa, and reunite them with the long-estranged (grand)father.
- Nelly's father Jobst Lauer arrives from Bremen with a surprise: four huskies, which he continues sled-training in the Black Forest, to impress her and local friends. While vet Philip is off, discussing collaboration with city colleague Dr. Waldemar Wecker, Pawel and Jessie secretly train the domestic dogs to pull his sled, which gets stuck in the forest, leading to a collision with Jobst's speeding husky team.
- While Philips keeps considering Dr. Waldemar Wecker's offer to move and succeed in his well-equipped practice, Nelly keeps making animal videos. She got a new friend who shares that passion, Leonie Brüggemann, but the clueless wench 'rescued' a kid hare, which was probably just laying low as that species does. Meanwhile people are startled by a doberman on the loose.
- A loose Dobermann dog suddenly appears on the Grieshaber farm where he frightens Paulina's kid brother Kasimir, but is chased without harm. Fathers Vinzenz and Tomasz declare the 'wild hound' a public danger needing to be put down, hence mobilize the local hunters. Pawel, Paulina and Nelly doubt if the purebred is homeless and track him down through the forest, finding his very ill master, for whom he seeks help. Meanwhile excited hunters, locals and dogs scare each-other needlessly.
- Dr. Philip Hansen is finally moving into his joint veterinary practice with Dr. Waldemar Wecker in Freiburg. The talk of that town is Peter Wolf's ice parlor Eisdielen, which features live penguin Cooper. Unwilling foster boy Jan Kalkbrenner is among the locals who join Leonie's campaign to 'miberate' the animal, and as the owner refuses, they break into the cellar where he kept Cooper, only to finds Cooper is already gone and risk being charged for breaking-in robbery.
- The kids need to prove their innocence in the penguin theft, and after convincing themselves ice vendor Peter didn't move Cooper to his ice van, accept his offer to let them off the hook if Cooper is returned. Linus follows the right trail from the fish monger to a recent major customer, as turns out two local sisters. Jan's social case worker Charlotte Bischoff is pleased to meet his father, construction worker Martin Kalkbrenner, whose long absence requires fostering, but even now he promises to settle a find a local job, that's not easily reverted. Philip confront,ts Wecker, who admits he granted peter permission as a personal favor and promises to rectify that in the penguin's vital interest.
- Leonie always dreamed of her own dog, and hoped her birthday would be the day, now her father is back, but mother plays the allergy card. Her airhead friends pull together to buy her a dog from an illegal street vendor, literally from his car trunk. Leo realizes such dogs can't be trusted, and sees it gets checked by Hansen, who heard from the mother the allergy was a lie but sees through the girls scheme. They plan to take it to the pond, but can't go through with that, only Leo sees the vendor is denounced. Hansens convinces the mother to accept the dog after all, with clear care rules.
- Syrian refugee Hanadi traveled with her tame hamster "Muu Ktiir" all the way to Freiburg and now lives with sisters Charlie and Emilie. The rodent seems sick, vet Dr. Wecker even fears it's a virus that harms people too. Hanadi refuses to risk having it put down and gets Leonie to help smuggle the pet out of Dr. Hansen's practice to the Grieshaber farm, Hanadi later panics and makes a fugue into the forest.
- Vinzenz Grieshaber is all but amused when his senior downstream neighbor Jakob Kramer blindly suspects him of diverting the water needed for the horses meadows. Teen Jan Kalkbrenner and Paulina discover the real culprits: a beaver couple damming the brook for its lodge. Philip confirms the species is protected and refers the matter to the commissioned forester, yet the kids mistrust even him when they find a beaver caught in a trap, while a teeth-felt tree corners Jan.
- Early in hunting season, a magnificent male deer is spotted on Felix Brenner's land and he promises his girlfriend not to hunt it. However it wonders into the area of municipal chief huntsman Vinzenz Grieshaber, who gets up at night to hunt it, hoping to avoid Pauline's protests. Luckily he falls asleep. Farmhand Tomasz Kulka is commandeered to help him, but the kids mobilize to protect the deer and get smart help from vet Dr. Philip Hansen to lure it back in Felix's land with imitated calls.
- Jan Kalkbrenner's joy to be reunited with father Martin is tainted by having to move into a farm, as he misses city life and has no neighbor boy as playmate. Not even sharing the girls' interest in horses, he wanders off to meet and befriend old loner Jakob Krämer, who has a fascinating blue macaw as pet. Vet Hanses sadly agrees with Jacob that since all meadows were drained, his two water buffaloes are unprofitable and impossible to sell, so he prepares to put them down. Jan protests, so as the bovines disappear over night, his father presumes he 'liberated them'. The bird's habit to fly to the pair actually helps Jan find them, persuading Jacob to spare them.
- While Vincent is away, Tomasz welcomes teen cousin Fred, who moves into the farm loft, only Paulina notices his pet rat Gigi, until her kitten reacts duly defensive. Fred is told a rat is just not an acceptable pet on a farm, so needs to dispose of it. Meanwhile neighbor Huber's dog keeps escaping since his wife died, actually visiting her grave, strictly against cemetery rules, but both problems turn out canceling each-other.
- To Lucy's horror, Ferdy and Martin's Z restaurant ordered a goat, which she presumes is to be slaughtered, so she abducts the animal, which proves a nasty, voracious handful, causing havoc around the Reiterhof. Nelly must deals with spoiled brat Zina, whose father, Martin's boss, an't spare time for her, so she pouts the promised riding classes are without him. Then the goat complicates that too.
- Dr. Philip Hansen is not amused as his partner Helena let Josefine Grieshaber, whom she claimed to envy the 'calming' care for cattle, convince her to buy a sheep, only to find it's a herd of a dozen, non-returnable. Airhead Lucy decides Leonie's rabbit and those held by other local families are kept in too small cages, so kidnaps them leaving notes they will be returned when better housing is provided. The other girls help her, till Philip finds out and orders all bunnies returned.
- The kids are opposed to the implantation of a windmill in the forest. Seeing no other recourse left, they seek nature reserve protection by 'spotting' an endangered animal. Jakob Krämer agrees to let Jan borrow his trained bold eagle, which the knaves senses to be at dubious choice. Doc immediately spots it's a marine, very improbably species, and tries to explain wind energy is the right choice long-term, while the mighty eagle is dangerous for prey and possibly even kids.
- Jan's father Martin explains to doc the knave won't help hold a horse because he has a mild phobia. Jan plans to use the horse t draw a car for a romantic proposal to Petra, but finds it missing. Jan actually 'borrowed' it to impress his own girl visitor, but lacks even basic driver experience, so they have to be rescued. Martin gets a pleasant surprise.
- Horse Dommy goes missing and is taken in by pre-teen orphan Tim Hoppe, who lives with his grandfather Waldemar in the tents of the circus he once was director in, but went out of business years ago. Searching for the horse, nosy Nelly finds out and informs social worker Helena Brüggemann, who must make sure Tim finally gets proper schooling and check out semi-senile grandpa.
- On his first day in the vets home, Tim Hoppe learns about house rules but with his knavish twist. A shepherd reports a feral dog allegedly attack his lambs, but doc finds it was a mild accident with a stray. Tim spots and meets biking on the way to his new school, befriends him with food, practices training dogs on the Hansen family's own Cookie and proves the stray brach a great tracker. However Philip's Internet research shows it's a missing family dog, named Geronimo.
