- Studly cruise ship M/S Berlin sailor Stefan systematically acts as gallant white knight for passengers and even other tourists, but often pays a personal price, such as a three years contract. Grandpa Freytag raised doting darling orphan Daniel (12), a fellow jazz fan. On this cruise to New Orleans however, Daniel learns that his pa Rick is alive, a trumpeter in the French Quarter, who left the boy for career prospects and now hopes Daniel will choose him over grandpa. Doctor Wolf Sander went to great trouble for a goodbye present: the beloved Harley Davidson the captain once sold to Malaysian former crewman Beto who can't just sell it back given its state and sold-off parts.

Ship's hairdresser Stefan Arndt 's recruit Katharina Braun turns out much older and fatter then her application picture, but conspires with old, rich Emilia Sandhoff who has been residing aboard for three years and takes to her.

On the Maldives Benno learns to appreciate the devotion of his native hotel deputy Amita while Ilona and Roland might make up. Reserved goldsmith Marie becomes lovers with junior professor Sönke, having convinced him she made a pendant for a client from one of the Portuguese gold coins he showed during a lecture aboard on colonial galleys sunk near the archipelago, but Marie grows jealous of his efforts to acquire it from Hanna, who got it from Achim. Bellas meanwhile gets the captain to preside over a memorial ceremony and flirts with diving instructor Jean-Luc, who closes his school for her so the cruising director can't take lessons which worried the ship doctor anyway and a ray fish causes a medical emergency.

Workaholic Werner's neglected wife Margit makes him back off by divorce threat. Ingo Büchner finds his teen daughter Jacky a poor choice to stand in for her sick mother with tickets booked, jealously posing as his wife to sabotage potential romance with single Verena Schade. Jacky's own romance with hunky surf instructor Steve suffers his revenge in kind.

Hanno's cousin, Hanna Liebhold, helps him make Elsa see sense, which only works after Hanno helps save Elsa's favorite cheetah from a lion attack.

Ship doctor Wolf Sander hides his disappointment that reputed heart surgeon Martin Rainders switched to plastic surgery but joins him visiting the local orphanage infirmary he generously sends funds to, only to find its local chief embezzled most of the donations. The new cruise director makes the worst possible first impression on the captain, yet comes trough for guests.

Guest Thomas Müller and his wife hoped a romantic holiday would enable hem to get fertile, but his parents Dagmar and Herbert, who dream of grandchildren, booked the room next door as a surprise, which constantly sabotages their romance on board and on 'bedouin' excursion, her being a shameless meddler and he expecting help to cover up his cardiac-disastrous cigar-relapse. A brilliant geologist is eager to test his invention to cheaply explore desert land, surprised his ex is his counterpart in negotiations to sell it to an oil corporation, whose ruthless executive even hires local thugs to steal the results. A homewrecker, whose adulterous lover canceled his booking last minute, fearing his sick wife wouldn't survive divorce, turns suicidal, but her pathetic bottled message gets father and son Merbold, on whose retirement island it beached up, to board and preach the value of life.
- The cruiser heads for the South Sea archipelago Samoa from Sydney, Australia. Captain Paulsen learns in confidence that agent Gerd Finke is after master thief Volker Pohl, whose lover-accomplice is aboard, and meets him on an island trip, but gets jealous of his local bar maid, who turns nasty, yet Cupid strikes again. Udo Haas travels with his single-raised teen daughter, who has a hard d-time dealing with a potential stepmother. Doc Horst Schröder and chief hostess Beatrice chaperon culinary ravel guide authors Lydia Collani viz. Guido Weber, irreconcilable rivals finding themselves aboard after the same native cuisine, yet reaching more of an understanding than keeping quiet neither is an actual chef.
- Captain Paulsen steers the MS Deutschland to mysterious Burma (Myanmar), and warmly welcomes cruise director Beatrice back after her holiday, but she's uneasy finding her resort admirer boarded as passenger, eager to court her further, so she compromises the captain and others by involving them unasked in ploys to avoid her lover, even joining a Buddhist temple retreat. Passenger Hans Berger planned to tell his wife and teen daughter Marie about his illegitimate daughter, who is on the crew, but is mistaken by Marie for an adulterous lover. Marie's jealousy spoils her relationship with the suave ship pianist.
- On voyage to Perth, the MS Deutschland gets its unannounced new captain, former cruise ship steward and cargo captain Victor Burger. Cook Marius brought his motherless preteen son Jonas, who adores koalas. The captain takes to the cute rascal, unlike the mean chef. Jonas's grandmother, who was to chaperon him, is indisposed, so Marius brings in Claudia, a friendly maid. The knave goes missing after spotting a caged koala. Ship doctor Sander visits his Royal Flying Doctors mate Frank Marshal, who takes him along to an Aboriginals clinic. The airplane comes in handy to rescue two parties from the ship.
- Daniel Busch, one of cruise director Beatrice's charges, in on board. Before the "MS Deutschland" sails for San Francisco, Daniel witnesses and photographs a suspicious conversation between passenger Cora Steiner and a mystery man. Beatrice doesn't take Daniel seriously, but aboard he meets and teams up with retired insurance official Lothar Lohmann, who soon believes Cora Steiner may have staged her missing husband's alleged death. Sven Nowak booked the cruise with his secretary-lover Mandy Bischof, but finds his wife Rita in his cabin, so his close colleague Raffael Bär, who happens also to be aboard, is asked to take Mandy in, who hoped Sven would divorce for her, and gets charmed by Raffael. Captain Paulsen is hell-bent to take skeptic doctor Schröder along on a youth-rekindling ride around San Francisco but his old motorcycle wasn't taken aboard and not waiting for the rental one's papers proves problematic.
- Ellen and Eva talk about their lover and husband, respectively, not knowing he is one and the same; Markus invents ailments to get close to his beloved assistant doctor; widower Robert finds consolation in helping blind Renate enjoy Kenya.
- Captain Paulsen tells only cruise chaplain Wilfried Haag that he suspects the new first officer must be his biological son, given birth data and mother, but follows Haag's advice to tread carefully. Hard to please tycoon Sven Blankenhagen joined the cruise to Bali solely to meet his grandson Lukas, but hoped in vain the initiative came from his estranged, equally pigheaded daughter Nina.

Tobias Fährmann boards with editor-employed wife Saskia and son Paul (9), a kendo-fan whose practice sword is customs-confiscated while he came for a Tokio school. Saskia professionally knows bestseller-author Hendrik Claasen, who gives the ship lectures and bullies Paul, Tobias cancels 'sick' I an attempt to draw his parents together, which works out with a twist. Half-German Anna Sato visits her old-fashioned father Hiroto's country with fiance Daniel Felber but refuses him asking for her hand and meets her elder sister, geisha Misaki Sato. Yet Daniel confronting Hiroto Sato only seems to make things worse. Identical twins Laura and -sneakily hiding as her- Julia Friesinger boarded without a second ticket, a recipe for confusion and trouble with separate crew dates Dennis Starke and Philipp. *Oskar Schifferle gets lost in fascinating Tokyo without cellphone, wallet or notions of Japanese, desperate even to find his way back after finding the Japanese acts he promised to book for the cruise show are unavailable during the festival, but a local vendor and the crew help out.

Promising officer Florian Barner is torn between captain Burger's plans for him and his band with two crew-mates, which is offered a unique tour launch, while unsuspecting cruise director Schifferle books them for the gala aboard.

Medicine student Ella Linne noticed and dobs to captain Parger, whom Grimm and Hanna persuade to let him work for his passage, including fetching a vital spare part at the notoriously often-closed (matrons-run) port authority. In the process Eric and Ella become friends and collaborators, rendering him mores responsible, her more aware, self-reliant and sensitive, changing both lives. He watches over a terminal cancer-diagnosed passenger, who hopes for reconciliation with his last relative, estranged daughter and ship waitress Nina. Marek Hoffman brought his life-withdrawn daughter Greta, traumatized by witnessing her grandmother's death, hoping for a kick-start when she 'accidentally' meets he substitute-grandma they selected by ad. The entertainment staff must much a bitterly broken-up singer sisters duo and their pianist.

Modern painting expert Clara Philipp accompanies a five-piece private collection of French impressionists to rich Moroccan collector Soller in Marrakech. Despite staff captain Grimm's acclimatized safekeeping help, she finds one switched. Prime suspect is her new friend aboard, Pit Manshold, self-declared investment consultant, actually a gifted forger, who rescued her when lost in the 'souk', thanked by accompanying her in the collector's palace. New ship photographer Ken Becker looks down upon mulatto Lilani, who quickly starts an affair with ship fitness trainer Lennart Albers, but Ken stalks them having found out she's the incognito Berlin-educated bastard daughter of an African tribal 'king', whose father expects her to resume PR work during his official visit to Marrakech, but Lennart and Lilani fall in love, Ken tries to turn Lennart against her by disclosing her secrecy. Senior passenger Rolf Maraun, the cruise bar pianist, is not amused that Rosi Hager, his former show song partner, stalks his every step, demanding a show reunion at a 'schlager' festival she already signed up for. Only ship doctor Sander learns their secret as they get sympathetic virus infections.

The captain and his ever-bickering cruise director both have their hard set on a posh house on a fancy island, normally out of budget, but Dallas star Larry Hagman is urgently auctioning his. Also aboard are ship carpenter Klaus Altmann, his brother Thomas, who runs the family lumber business since father's death, and their mother, who fakes infirmity to attempt forcing a reconciliation, but an accident lays bare the darkest family secret. Disabled himself, ship doctor Horst Schröder is nursed by an old lover who finally gets him to consider a retired life on land.

Beauty clinic chief Dieter Holzmann boarded "MS Deutschland" with much younger beloved Tatjana Blume, but finds among the passengers his youth ex Ines Krüger, who is still attracted but passes her adult son Jojo as her lover, causing plenty of misunderstandings.
- Captain Paulsen is late, after helping a native left behind wounded by a passenger, for his 50th cruise, this time to Vietnam. Oskar de Navetta prepares a celebration with the crew. Young Felix Bertold and Rebecca Rüdiger bod instantly, then learn they have exactly the same birthday, so a big party is planned. Their widowed/divorced mothers must come to terms with a dark family secret when Felix's mother, nurse Dagmar, realizes who the Rüdigers are to them. Cornelia Feller's groom Ulf Höffer sent her aboard first with best man Nico, but fails to turn up and sends them word he once more fell in love at first sight with another. By the time Ulf arrives, having dumped her, Niko fell is love with the bride. Beatrice gets time off to join a group of tree of her high school mates, rekindling rivalries but exchanging confidences.

Captain Paulsen's godson Mickey Köhler isn't just a gifted prankster, but gets the Hartmanns to take him along on a local trip, posing as poor orphan, when a lunatic on the run confides 'her' stolen baby to Regine, who wants to keep it as she doesn't make it to the given meeting point, being arrested. In Auckland port, contractor Gerd Götze, who believes all is for sale, his much younger wife Stella and his best friend Benjamin Pohl rent a sailing yacht to explore a nearby island. Captain Paulsen spots their red emergency light and stops the ship to take them aboard, Gerd Götze allegedly having had a cardiac attack, but retired police detective Franz Engel soon smells a rat and helps work out the devious truth, requiring seeing through several false versions.
- Udo Kaulbach tells his wife Loni only well at sea that he conspired with ship barber Olbricht, his youth football buddy, to save his near-bankrupt firm by a dodgy deal in illegally smuggled cheap Botwana diamonds during the excursion in the vast Okavango delta nature reserve, where wildlife and Bushmen aren't the only predators. In Capetown, Peter Jahn and his separated ex Claudia Jahn come aboard to Botwana, unaware they each brought the one of their unwitting twin daughters each raises, Friderike and Lara, who soon work out being separated twins and are determined to reunite their parents, who soon see through but come to play along. Captain Paulsen and Beatrice look after the two winners of the shipping company's competition, shy Lothar Meyer who owns a cleaning company and his employee Ramona Wiese, who wasn't supposed to know but nevertheless they mutually grow crushes.
