- This drama series centres around a team of television journalists working on a weekly current-affairs programme that screens on the privately-owned Pacific Television (PTV) channel. The main characters include Amanda Robbins (Katie Wolfe) who was lured back to Wellington from Australia by PTV Chief Executive, Martin Woolf (Jonathan Hendry) who wanted her Rottweiller qualities to raise the controversial show's ratings. Robbins was appointed by Woolf without consulting Bernard Fry (John Sumner), the producer of Cover Story, and Fry and the rest of the staff have struggled with Robbins' tabloid-esque style and her "blood on the road" approach.
- When a young, wealthy Australian crashes (literally) into their lives and whisks them off to Australia, Mandy's thinking wedding bells, Zak looks for his long lost relative Crocodile Dingle, Vic and Terry find someone new to fight over and even Butch finds romance in the most unexpected of places.

The main character David Silesi (Jay Laga'aia) is a maverick lawyer who pushes the limits of the law. He will do anything for his clients and friends. He also spends most of the series pining for his law partner Joni Collins. Collins is a level-headed female lawyer at Wyeth & Associates. In its third series, Silesi and Collins join together and buy out the firm to save it after Wyeth dies in unfortunate circumstances.
- Sunday was a weekly public affairs programme from Australia's Nine Network, which ran from 1981 to 2008. When Sunday began on 15 November 1981, its unique two hour format offered viewers a mix that included local and overseas news, politics, in-depth stories on issues affecting Australia and the world, plus film reviews, arts features and music. Sunday was presented by Jim Waley, who hosted the show for the next 20 years and became synonymous with the programme.
