Chad's family is depicted as lower middle class (having to wear his hand-me-downs from his brother and his parents having to work all the time) which helps Chad's brother and his partner further convince him to move with them (its assumed Sean William Scott's character has money, like enough money to hush the police after they're called on the assault on the neighbors dad) this is the set up for his life in LA. once they get there they show chad his fully furnished room with all the hot things money can buy at the time and finally finish off by giving him a car with his own chauffeur.
