- Billie Speare is a gritty drama wrapped up in a magical tale of courage. Welcome to the world of Billie, where William Shakespeare is embodied by an eleven-year-old girl, who transforms herself and inspires others with her beautiful and creative spirit. Billie is grieving the recent death of her mother, getting bad grades and persecuted by a quartet of bullies. The film opens on an especially bad day, which culminates in a fight between Billie and her sister and guardian, Kate. Kate blames the world for their mother's death and takes it out on Billie. Still in need of a parent herself, she is neglectful to Billie, instead of fulfilling the role of parent that has been placed on her young shoulders. Alone in her room Billie finds a memento of her mother's love that inspires her to put her ideas of acceptance and love in the form of a play. Billie's teacher discovers what Billie has written and decides to spread its positive message by arranging a performance. Kate shows up for the performance and the two sisters bond realizing they can nurture each other.
