Without a pause he takes the dead cabbie's place behind the wheel and starts making the rounds of the city, transporting passengers (Jean-Pierre Léaud plays the role of a client who recites Cavafy throughout the entire ride). He feels the air of freedom, a lord of Paris and master of himself, up to the moment that he meets young Anies, and his life falls into new paths.
- Psychological drama of Greek-English production, in which an employee of the British Embassy, Liz, meets a hospitalized patient covered in burns. He tells her a strange story about five teenagers who met years ago on an island and whose youthful pranks caused someone's death. Their meeting at the scene of the tragedy, twenty-five years later, brings back the traumatic experiences of the past. To redeem themselves, they decide to sacrifice that which is most valuable to them - their lives. One of them, Nanta, cuts his throat with glass, while the painter, Tim, hangs himself from an interior staircase. Following the suicide of the third, Jonathan, the rest of the group, Stewart and Christian, decide to set fire to the house and burn with the bodies of their friends. Liz, deeply affected by the narration, realizes with horror that the injured man is Stewart, who after completing the story, and Liz's departure, takes his own life. However, he is not the only survivor. Christian, who was also rescued by an islander, decides to give himself up to justice. Some years later, he is released from prison, having experienced the "freedom of prison" as atonement for everyone's sins.

- Aris, a race driver, meets a guy who looks incredibly like him. With evident curiosity he tries to find out, from his friend Dimitris, who this identical "stranger" is. He finds out that his name is Kyriakos and that he works in a car-repair shop. Kyriakos too, however, who is involved with Foteini, is informed of Aris' existence and also, from his own father, he finds out that Aris is his twin brother who had been given up for adoption to a well-off gentleman, Kaisaris. The latter, as Ntiana, Aris' friend, finds out, wanted a son to inherit his vast fortune. Ntiana helps Kyriakos become a singer, while at the same time blackmailing Kaisaris. In the end, the two brothers find out everything, and Kaisaris is forced to sabotage Kyriakos' car, so as to put him out of the running in the forthcoming race. At the last minute, however, Aris takes Kyriakos' place. The weak (as usually) heart (of Kaisaris) fails, but Kyriakos manages to save his brother from an undeserved death.
- A talented but impecunious author has a chance encounter with the household's exotic new housemaid: the bright-eyed African beauty, Oua-Oua. Could the cryptic housekeeper with the deliciously strange name be the answer to his prayers?
- The few survivors of a deserted city, sometime in the near future, are left with no water or food but somehow manage to survive. In a hospital, a lonely scientist, Foteini, is helping a patient with amnesia to recover. She also meets an actor named Aias (Ajax) - who often visits his sick sister - and becomes romantically involved with him. Foteini is swept away by love; Aias, however, is unprepared for such strong emotions. Their separation brings Foteini to the house of the amnesiac, and he takes care of her, up to the moment that she discovers a photo of hers among his things. In the meantime, Aias brings his sister back home from the hospital. While it is getting darker, with clouds gathering in the sky, Foteini and Aias wander the city and meet in the rain.
- Father Isichios, who is seeing that the faith of his fellow human beings is lost and that the church where he works is emptied of believers, recruits a two-wheeled motorcycle in order to penetrate the youth.

- At the Presidential Mansion news arrives every day indicating that things in the country are going from bad to worse. The President summons all the political leaders in order to understand exactly what is happening; and yet no one can enlighten him. He decides to act. He calls two journalists and assigns them the task of investigating the matter by speaking directly with ordinary people. The investigation starts with the notorious Gypsy Tamtakos, who struggles every day for a living. Then they move on to a simple employee, Markos, who dreams of a raise -which never comes. Then it's a farmer, Thymios, who comes to the capital to sell his oranges. In a largely burlesque manner, the film more or less reveals that the entire misfortune is due to Greeks' laziness and apathy, as well as to the prevailing attitude of "no big deal".
- In a Gypsy settlement, mourning prevails due to the loss of Zigkos, the leader of the clan. Later on, they celebrate the appointment of the new leader, who, according to custom, is no other than Vantar, son of the deceased. A chance meeting between Vantar and the beautiful Gypsy woman Maira triggers the beginning of a passionate love. Another Gypsy, however, Karatzais, also desires Maira. He woos her with passion and succeeds in winning her over. Vantar, disappointed and bitter, seeks comfort in the arms of a rich white woman, Margarita, but finds it difficult to live with her. Nevertheless, the incorruptible law of the Gypsies is death, and that is where both Maira and Karatzais end up.
- Three inmates of a prison escape and seize the archaeological museum of a provincial town shortly before its official inauguration, threatening to destroy the statues if their demands are not met. The museum is surrounded by the police, and a violent end seems inevitable. Only the curator of the museum shares the anguish of the fugitive convicts (and is also naturally concerned about the fate of the statues). The townspeople, however, are completely oblivious and indifferent to the events taking place.
- A successful lawyer, Marios, and his wife, Margarita, live in Athens, leading a quiet and rather conventional life according to established, average, middle-class standards. The husband has a love affair with a young lawyer, and the wife has her own adventure. When she was arrested for the first time, her rich father managed to set her free, and she fell in love with a young doctor who took care of her injuries following torture. A little before the withdrawal of the Germans, she participated in the blowing up of a train that was transporting ammunition, and she was arrested again, but this time no one could save her. She was executed at the Chaïdari camp, along with forty-nine other prisoners.
