- Engineer Frank Reynolds returns to his Heimatland, where he finds a blue diamond in Regine. But she has a brother who is not a diamond at all.
- On May 7, 2001, nine-year-old Peggy Knobloch disappears. A Germany-wide and international search for the child begins. But the police can't find any trace of Peggy. Her body was found on July 2, 2016. Peggy Knobloch's disappearance remains a mystery and is one of the most famous criminal cases in Germany. The case is reconstructed in detail in this documentary series.
- The police investigators are looking for suspects in Lichtenberg and in Peggy's family environment. Was Peggy kidnapped to Turkey by her stepfather? Months without success in the investigation SOKO Peggy was substituted by a new investigative team. Finally, the Lichtenberg innkeeper Ulvi Kulac comes into focus. He makes a confession.
- Ulvi Kulac is charged and convicted of Peggy's murder. But doubts soon arise, especially in his hometown Lichtenberg: Is Kulac really the killer of Peggy? One woman in particular - Gudrun Rödel - is convinced of his innocence and turns on lawyer Michael Euler.
- Lawyer Michael Euler and Gudrun Rödel - legal in charge of Ulvi Kulac - examine the case meticulously and come to the conclusion that Kulac is innocent and could not have killed Peggy. They gather new knowledge and achieve their goal: there is a retrial.
- After Ulvi Kulac's acquittal in the retrial, the case is open again. The investigators and some journalists are following up on leads that point to new suspects. In 2016 something happened that no one really expected: a mushroom picker found Peggy's body in a wooded area near Lichtenberg.
- After Peggy's body were discovered in a forest, the investigators meticulously evaluate the traces of the site for almost two years. Finally, the Bayreuth public prosecutor announced that they had a new suspect in focus. His partial confession pulls a man back into the case who was actually considered exonerated: Ulvi Kulac.
