- Private eye Barnaby Jones works with his widowed daughter-in-law to solve cases.
- Corporate exec Miles Creighton dies, and is cryogenically frozen in the hopes that he can be revived. 10 years later, the procedure is a success, and Miles returns--without his soul.
- Betty becomes a key witness after a boxing promoter she had just visited falls to death from his balcony, and it's ruled a murder. Betty is then stalked and threatened by a blonde woman, whom the prime suspect saw with the promoter.
- A young widow hires Barnaby to investigate the "accidental" death of her husband of only four weeks. While investigating the case another young man who was once a suitor to the same woman winds up dead under mysterious circumstances, leaving Barnaby to believe neither death was accidental.
- A basketball team's owner learns his star player once threw a game. The player's shady brother-in-law (ironically, a used car salesman) has committed to a dangerous gangster that he has the player "in his pocket" and threatens to contact the commissioner if the owner does not go along with his scheme. In a physical confrontation, the much larger owner accidentally kills the other man, and the owner hides the body while directing his mentally challenged aide to dispose of the dead man's car after making up an excuse. Barnaby is hired by the now deceased man's wife -- who is the sister of the player who threw the game -- to try to locate her husband.
- A gang leader sends two of his men to bring Barnaby to him but he's not around so they get J.R. and bring him to him. He tells J.R. that his friend and lieutenant was shot and killed. Most of his gang are inclined to believe that someone from a rival gang may have been the one who killed him and would like to start a war. But the leader doesn't think so. So he wants J.R. to find who it is before a war breaks out. Barnaby upon learning of what happened to J.R. and what he is doing is doing some digging of his own.
- A woman that is helping to develop a revolutionary new type of television set disappears without a trace, and the company that she works for asks Barnaby to find out what happened to her.
- Barnaby is hired by a South American President to find his son who lives in LA. He finds him but learns he is also the Rebel leader, Javier he is presently at odds with.
- While spending time at her cabin in a small town in California, Betty comes between a doctor who's hiding his real identity and the three men who want to kill him because of an incident that happened during the Vietnam War.
- A black funeral wreath on his office door predicts Barnaby's death on Sunday. Even after he figures out who the psycho ex-convict is with a vendetta against him, Barnaby is stymied until his daughter-in-law is held hostage. It's a race against time to save her and himself.
- An arrogant football player decides to have a fling. But when he gets rough with the girl, she tries to leave. They get into a scuffle that ends with her dead. He tries to cover it up. Barnaby is hired by the girl's husband to find out what happened. His team mate who knows about it, tries to tell him to come forward.
- J.R. gets involved in a dangerous situation when an old friend tells him that her ex-husband is stalking her and their son and using his influence as a police officer to do it.
