- Lance Alvers wants to join the X-Men to be closer to Kitty. Unfortunately, the rest of the Brotherhood are not pleased with his decision and Lance has trouble fitting in, when he becomes the prime suspect for several recent joyrides.
- The X-Men are allowed back in school on a trial basis, provided they do not use their powers on campus. This proves not an easy task with Principal Kelly secretly orchestrating trouble for them, including a showdown with the Brotherhood.
- Kurt becomes trapped in an alternative universe created by another young mutant known as Forge, who himself has been stuck there for more than 20 years.
- When Jean has nightmares about huge circus clowns, a mysterious hypnotist kidnaps some of the X-Men including Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Spyke, and Shadowcat, and brainwashes them into committing crimes for him.
- A large mutant boy, Fred 'Blob' Dukes, enrolls in Bayville High. It is soon apparent that Fred has many issues deal with including his powers and his feelings about Jean.
