Tommy Bolin is notable for replacing Joe Walsh in The James Gang, and later taking over from Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple. Bolin's earliest recordings are on albums by Zephyr; he also guested on Billy Cobham's jazz album Spectrum. James Gang Bang is considered by some Bolin aficionados to be a much underrated piece and the songs "Mystery" and "Alexis" are moving; "Must Be Love" reached the US Top 40.
The James Gang's next release with Bolin was Miami. Two solo albums Teaser and Private Eyes received some critical acclaim, and "Wild Dogs" and "Post Toastee" were also reasonably well-received. Bolin joined Deep Purple for the album Come Taste The Band. He died from an overdose in 1976.- Drew Hanson was born on 16 July 1951 in New York, USA. Robinson had worked for The Examiner for three years when he got the assignment to travel to Guyana with reporter Tim Reiterman, now a senior assistant metro editor at the Los Angeles Times. Robinson had already taken pictures that won him admiration: getting in the right spot to capture Jimmy Carter carrying his own luggage; a hijacker and his hostages surrounded by FBI agents; victims of a tram accident at Squaw Valley. Among his own favorites were shots of football, baseball and skating.
After an arduous journey and delays in Georgetown, Guyana's capital, the group arrived at the small airstrip in Port Kaituma, then continued by flatbed truck to Jonestown. Robinson made pictures of the smiling faces at a celebratory dinner, of Ryan addressing Jones' followers in front of a sign reading "Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it." He photographed Jones caressing the chin of a little boy he claimed was his son, he snapped kids dancing, a baby sleeping on its mother's shoulder and children in the nursery.
And as he was leaving, he took the last pictures of Ryan alive. The congressman's shirt is flecked with the blood of a man who tried to stab him and was injured as he was being disarmed. Ryan looks exhausted, tense.
The photographs show Robinson's knack for being in the right spot, for catching what is essential. Part of their impact also comes from the sheer nature of photography, its power to capture what the naked eye cannot see alone. There was something horribly wrong at Jonestown, something Robinson would not live to see on his film.
Shortly afterward, Robinson himself was shot dead. A photograph shows him lying on the ground near Ryan, NBC correspondent Don Harris, NBC cameraman Bob Brown and temple defector Patricia Parks, all slaughtered as they waited to board a plane. This time, the picture was taken by Reiterman, himself injured in the attack. Four rolls of Robinson's film were transported home. Another 35 seized by police in Guyana as evidence were later recovered. Some were printed for the first time for the Veterans Building exhibit.- Music Department

Chris Bell was born January 12, 1951 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was always a talented artist but began displaying his ability as a writer and guitarist at about 12 years old. After high school Bell became a founding member of possibly the greatest post-Beatles-style rock band that the USA has yet produced. The band was called Big Star and they released 3 classic records "#1 Record" (1971), which he wrote and performed on and the others, "Radio City" (1972) and "Third" (first officially released in England in 1978) which he reportedly helped arrange and write. The first record was a critical success and today, in the CD format, it has sold in the millions, but at that time their record label, Ardent/Stax, a primarily black R&B and Soul Music label, was either unwilling or unable to adequately promote, publicize and market this Beatles-sounding masterpiece. It is reported by his brother in the liner notes of his posthumously released solo album, "I Am The Cosmos" (1992), that he was so despondent over the failure that he attempted to "do himself in". His brother helped him see the light and between the years 1974-1978 Chris began to record his own record. This work can be heard today on that disk and also in the numerous cover versions of these songs done by popular artists of the 90s and today. He had not yet finished it when, in the words of his brother David, "returning home from a rehearsal with his new band, his car struck a telephone pole on Poplar Ave., and he died instantly." Chris' most popular contribution to modern culture is still his song "In The Street" co-written with Big Star band mate Alex Chilton. This song is used as the opening theme for _"That 70s Show" (1998)_ and is performed by legendary 70s rock band "Cheap Trick".
Bell's scant body of work is selling more every year to new young audiences, and being sited as influence for more and more contemporary musicians. His brother David has remarked that Chris would be thrilled if he had lived to see his ideas and music vindicated.- Theresa Ferrara was born on 5 September 1951 in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York City, New York, USA. - J.V Cain was a Tight End for the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL. On July 22, 1979, Cain was participating with teammates in a work out when he passed out. It was later ruled that Cain died of congenital heart failure brought out by working out in extreme heat.
Cain played high school football at Booker T. Washington in Houston Texas, before playing college football at Colorado. He was the 7th overall selection in the 1974 NFL players draft. Two years alter, he emerged as the full time starting tight end for the Cardinals. He was expected to be a bigger part of the offense going into 1979 when he passed away during training camp.
His final career totals were 76 receptions for 1,014 yards and nine touchdowns. - Music Department
