Renowned for portraying his witty, stereotypical norteño character named "Piporro" in the Pedro Infante film Ahí viene Martín Corona (1952), Eulalio González quickly became one of the box-office stars of the 1960s and the best norteño comedian ever. Born and raised in northern Mexico, González was the son of customs agent Pablo González Barrera and Elvira Ramírez. During his youth he studied medicine and accounting, though he never sought these professions. His first break came when he working as a radio announcer and popular film actor-singer Pedro Infante invited him to participate in the radio-novela "Martín Corona". The success of the radio-novela spawned a film starring Infante and Sara Montiel with González reprising his role as the comic norteño sidekick. It would not be until the early 1960s when González's popularity grew in both film and music, starring as the leading man in the films The Ship of Monsters (1960), Ruletero a toda marcha (1962), El rey del tomate (1963), El bracero del año (1964), La Valentina (1966), Qué hombre tan sin embargo (1967), and El pistolero desconocido (1967). - Carlos Baena was an extraordinary artist. Although he had had a part in a Mexican film when he was 22 years old, 1956 was a significant year: he had been studying drama in Madrid for five years, and he appeared in a big film production, Robert Rossen's "Alexander, the Great", first film version of the life of the ancient king of Macedon, filmed in Spain, and starring Richard Burton. By the time the film was released, he had returned to Mexico, where he became a prominent actor, starring in Alberto Gout's "Adán y Eva", also from 1956.
Baena was also a theater director and a playwright. He directed big production of classics by Spanish writers, as Calderón de la Barca's tragedy "La vida es sueño" and Federico García Lorca's "La casa de Bernarda de Alba". Theater was his true love. He was a leading man in Mexican cinema, alternating with popular actors, such as Pedro Armendáriz, Ninón Sevilla, Marga López, Wolf Ruvinskis and Martha Mijares, but although he was in constant demand he left movies after completing 20 features, and relocated in the state of Nuevo León.
Baena continued performing and directing theater, but he was also interested in art. He was a good friend of Miró, Tamayo and Dalí, and by the 70's he was a full-time artist and became a professor of Art at the Institute of Higher Technology of Monterrey, along with Giancarlo Von Nacher and Diamant Mihaloglou.
He was also interested in art in general and communications, he worked with Louis Martin, Gerardo Garza Fausti and Ivan Mihaloglou at the School of Communication from the University of Monterrey, in the late 1980s and became involved in radio, producing radio programs on classical music. In his last years, Carlos Baena had a weekly television program in Channel 28, in the state of Nuevo León, about music, theater, culture and the bohemian life, and published his poems. - Actor
