Known for her astonishing 4 1/2 octave vocal range, Yma Sumac (AKA Ima or Imma Sumack) is from Ichocán, Peru, a town high in the Andes. From an early age she performed in radio and movies and made recordings throughout South America. She came to the United States in the 1940s and performed with a small group of musicians and dancers. When she signed with Capitol Records in 1950 her stage name's spelling was changed to the more exotic "Yma Sumac." An urban legend that she is really "Amy Camus," a nice Jewish girl from Brooklyn, originated in 1951 with a joke among musicians repeated in one of Walter Winchell's gossip columns. She has acted in several films and stage shows, and continued to perform into the 1990s. She lives in Los Angeles and has been contemplating new releases of recordings of her most recent concerts.- Gorgeously buxom and shapely blonde knockout Tiffany Marie Sloan was born on May 29, 1973 in Orange County, California. Tiffany was the Playmate of the Month in the October, 1992 issue of "Playboy." She holds the distinction of being one of a handful of Playmates to have her own video centerfold mass marketed separately by "Playboy" instead of being featured in a video compilation with a bunch of other Playmates. Moreover, Tiffany posed for several special edition publications for "Playboy." Sloan made a guest appearance on an episode of the popular TV sitcom "Married with Children" and appeared in numerous "Playboy" videos. She managed her own website until it was suddenly shut down in 2005. Tiffany went on to work as a stripper in Las Vegas, Nevada and was a featured exotic dancer at the gentleman's club Club Paradise in 2006. Tiffany Sloan committed suicide at the tragically young age of 35 by overdosing on drugs on November 1, 2008.

Detroit-area soul singer Nathaniel Mayer had his biggest hit at age 18 with 1962's raw "Village of Love" on Fortune Records (co-written by Devora Brown, the label's owner). The record took off nationally and merited Mayer an appearance on American Bandstand (1952). His follow-up records, although selling well in the Michigan area, failed to measure up to the success of his first, and he left Fortune Records in 1966. Not much was heard of him after that, although he apparently did some touring and recorded a single in 1980, called "Raise the Curtain High" (it didn't raise high enough; nothing came of it). In 2002 a small label named Norton Records released a 1968 recording of Mayer's called "I Don't Want No Bald-Headed Woman Telling Me What To Do", and its limited success inspired Mayer to stage a comeback. His voice had matured with age, and the raw, highly emotional shouting of his early records had morphed into a much mellower, smokier growl, and got him a string of club and festival gigs. His live shows were well-received, and two years later he went back into the recording studio and emerged with an album called "I Just Want to Be Held", released on Fat Possum Records. which specialized mostly in blues singers. Two more albums were released in 2007 and 2009.
