Marika Rokk was born in Cairo on the 3rd of November 1913. As a child she moved to Hungary. In Paris at the Moulin Rouge she started her career as a dancer, soon moving on to Broadway New York City, USA.
She made her first films Why Sailors Leave Home (1930) in London, & also Kiss Me Sergeant (1930) in London, U.K.
After that she made 2 very fine films in Hungary, her home.
Miss Rokk made her first German film: Light Cavalry (1935) in 1935 it made her a Star overnight. Soon she married German Film Director Georg Jacoby and her 2nd German film was Der Bettelstudent (1936), directed by him.
In 1939 she made It Was a Gay Ballnight (1939) with superstar Zarah Leander and started filming the first German color film Frauen sind doch bessere Diplomaten (1941) which was finished and released two years later.
The couple had one child, Gabriele Jacoby. Miss Rökk also married Fred Raul. She retired from films in the 1960s but continued to perform in Operetta's like "Die Blume von Hawaii" & others on the stage across Europe before retiring to Baden, Austria. Songwriter ("Love Is a Simple Thing") and author, educated at Hollywood High School in California. She wrote songs for films and for the Broadway revues "Who's Who", "New Faces of 1952", and "New Faces of 1956". Joining ASCAP in 1952, her chief musical collaborators include Arthur Siegel and Richard Lewine. Her other popular-song compositions include "Penny Candy", "Monotonous", "The Boy Most Likely to Succeed", "Let's Hold Hands", "I Want You to Be the First to Know", "He Takes Me Off His Income Tax" and "Rinka Tinka Man".- Church of Christ minister and certified public accountant, and father of actor Jim Beaver. Born to Joe and Beulah (Bell) Beaver on a farm near Iowa Park, Texas, he was the youngest boy of ten children. He attended school in the now non-existent town of Clara, Texas, and graduated from Iowa Park High School. He then attended Abilene Christian College before joining the U.S. Army and serving as an anti-tank gunner in the Philippines during World War II. After the war, he was part of the Occupation Forces in Japan for a year before returning to college. He became a minister for various Churches of Christ in Texas. In 1949, he married Dorothy Crawford in Cameron, Texas, then moved with her to Laramie, Wyoming, where he attended graduate school at the University of Wyoming and where his son was born. Subsequently he took his family to Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked simultaneously as a preacher and as an accountant for various oil and pipeline companies. The family moved in 1955 to Irving, Texas, in which city he lived for the remainder of his life. In his seventies, retired as a minister but still working as a CPA, he fell victim to a mysterious brain ailment which slowly robbed him of speech and movement but left his mental faculties intact. He died on May 16, 2004, survived by his wife, their son, and three daughters.
