Gerard De Boe studied in oudenaarde to become a teacher. In 1926 he became teacher in oudenaarde, but he left a year later already Belgium to become a medical assistent in Kongo from 1927 till 1938. From 1940 on he was camera man working for the Information and Documentation Centre of Kongo. During 1941 and 1942 he was war correspondent in Abessinia, Nigeria and South-Africa. He worked from 1943 till 1944 as a filmer for the Information and Documentation Centre of Kongo and as a radio-cooperator of that Centre. In 1945 he returned to Belgium and made from that time on documentay films in Belgium and in Kongo. He became head of the Production Centre Gerard De Boe in 1949 and was the teacher of young Belgian filming talents as Emile Degelin and Jean Cleinge.
