- Arthur Greenaway was an actor, known for In the Wake of the Bounty (1933), For the Term of His Natural Life (1927) and The Cheaters (1930). He died on 27 June 1942 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
- British writer Ernest Bramah Smith was born in the UK on March 20, 1868, into a wealthy family. At 16 years of age he dropped out of school and went into the farming business. He began writing short stories for a local newspaper. When his farming business failed he went to Fleet Street and got a job with newspaper magnate Jerome K. Jerome, eventually being named editor of one of Jerome's magazines.
In 1900, after having been rejected by eight publishers, his novel "The Wallet of Kai Lung" was published. It was a major hit. Bramah wrote on many different subjects, such as mystery, science-fiction and political science.
He died on June 27, 1942.
