Wagner Schwartz, choreographer, performer, linguist, writer and video artist, was born in Volta Redonda (State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to Protestant parents of Swiss ancestry. He began his studies of popular music and drama in the public schools of Volta Redonda. Later, at the Federal University of Uberlandia, Wagner studied modernist literature and art, which influences his semiotic approach to choreography. His work shows a strong connection to local crises and seeks to disrupt lines of artistic transmission.
