Chouko Iida was born in 1897, in the old downtown of Tokyo, Asakusa.After dropping out of high school and working as a clerk at the Matsuzakaya Department Store, she joined the Nakamura Matsugoro Acting Company. In 1922, Iida entered Shochiku Kamata Productions. Her acting was soon recognized by a director at Shouchiku and she went on to debut in Shinyuku Tsuma (The Dying Wife). She then appeared in Gamaguchi (A Purse) and Goikenmuyo (Useless Opinions) in collaboration with Jun Arai. After her marriage to Hideaki Mohara, a cameraman, she played the principal role in a number of films of Godokoro Hiranosuke: Okame (The Turtle), Ukiyoeburo (The Bath of the Floating World), Onna to Umaretakaranya (Because I Was Born to Be a Woman). She later co-starred with Takeshi Sakamoto in Dekigokoro (Acting on Impulse), Ukigusa Monogatari and Tokyo no yado (A Japanese Inn in Tokyo) the successful series of films by Yasujiro Ozu. Iida received the Jujo Murasaki award in 1963, and the Tanho award fourth prize in 1967. She died in 1972, of lung cancer at the age of 75.

After graduating in Tokyo, he joined Toei Doga in 1963. In 1965 he was promoted from inbetweener and animator to director of animation with the TV Series "Obake no Qtaro" ("Ghost Qtaro"). In 1966 he left Toei and joined A Pro. (later Shin'Ei Doga). His first TV series in the company was "Pa-man" (1967-68). In 1979 he co-directed the first episodes of the TV series "Doraemon", and later more than 20 films based on the character, beginning with the fourth one (in 1983). All the three series are based on mangas by Fujiko-Fujio, but Shibayama is also famous for TV series based on other mangas, as "Tensai Bakabon" by Fujio Akatsuka, "The Gutsy Frog" by Yasumi Yoshizawa and above all the film trilogy "Cheer up, Tabuchi-kun" (1979-80) by Hisaichi Ishii.

Michitarô Mizushima was born on 20 January 1912 in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. He was an actor, known for Seishun jazu musume (1953), Kai-denpa no senritsu - Dai ippen: Ningen tank shutsugen hen (1939) and Kai dempa satsujin kôsen - Dai ippen: Ningen tanku shutsugen (1936). He died on 23 March 1999 in Tokyo, Japan.

Sadako Sawamura was born on 11 November 1908 in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. She was an actress, known for Taiyô to bara (1956), A Wife's Heart (1956) and Street of Shame (1956). She was married to Kamatari Fujiwara and Yasuhiko Ôhashi. She died on 16 August 1996.

Noburô Ôfuji (June 1, 1900 - July 28, 1961) was a Japanese film director and animator. One of the most notable auteurs of anime of the first half of the 20th century (one of the industry's most prestigious awards, the Mainichi Film Awards' Ôfuji Noburô Award, is named after him), he worked primarily with cutout and silhouette animation. He also made a number of films in traditional animation, using then-expensive, imported cels, while his earliest work known to have survived is a live-action/animated film. He trained under Jun'ichi Kôuchi before starting his own company. He is known for his employment of washi, especially the colored and patterned Edo chiyogami, which gives his films a distinctively Japanese appearance. He was one of the first Japanese animators to earn international recognition for his work.
